The Air Lift LOADLIFTER 5000. 57140 (Part #BBCG57140) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The LoadLifter 5000 is an air spring suspension support system that provides up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) of load-leveling support. It uses commercial-grade convolute bellows manufactured with layers of rubber and cords to control growth. The air springs are adjustable from 5 to 100 PSI (0.34 to 7 BAR), allowing you to adjust suspension stiffness based on load.
Yes, kit 57140 is designed for the Ford F-53 Class A motorhome. However, you should verify your specific model year and configuration with Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892 before purchasing, as the manual does not specify which model years are covered.
Your vehicle may be equipped with a rear brake proportioning valve, which could have its performance affected by a load assist product. Check with your dealer before installing. If your vehicle does not have a rear brake proportioning valve, or is equipped with an anti-lock brake system, installation of the LoadLifter 5000 will have no effect on brake system performance.
Some late-model F-53 chassis have a round jounce bumper under the frame that will interfere with the air spring assembly installation. If your model is equipped with this style jounce bumper, it must be removed and discarded.
Some F-53 models have a plastic spacer between the leaf springs on the passenger (right) side that will need to be filed or ground away to allow the carriage bolt to be installed into the clamp bar.
Required tools include: 7/16" and 9/16" open-end or box wrenches; adjustable wrench; ratchet with 3/8", 9/16", and 1/2" deep well sockets; 3/8" and 5/16" drill bits (very sharp); 3/8" nut driver; heavy duty drill; torque wrench; hose cutter, razor blade, or sharp knife; hoist or floor jacks; safety stands; safety glasses; air compressor or compressed air source; and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution.

The manual does not specify whether factory fasteners are reused. All fastening points described in the installation steps use hardware provided in the kit.
Normal ride height is the distance between the bottom edge of the wheel well and the center of the hub with the vehicle in the "as delivered" condition. You must measure this before installation to establish a baseline. Remove unusual loads and ensure the vehicle is on a level surface. If leaf springs are sagging badly, use a jack to raise the rear end to the original "as delivered" ride height before measuring. Record your measurement in inches or centimeters for reference during and after installation.
The manual does not mention disconnecting the battery. No electrical system work is required for this installation.
Yes. The tools list specifies that a hoist or floor jacks and safety stands are required for installation.
1. Loosely attach the 1/8" x 1/4" tube elbow fitting (O) to the air spring. Tighten finger-tight plus 1 1/2 turns, tightening the metal hex nut only. Do not overtighten. 2. Loosely attach the upper bracket (B) to the air springs with two 3/8-16 x 7/8" hex head bolts (L), lock washers (N), and flat washers (M). 3. Attach the air spring to the lower bracket (C) with two 3/8-16 x 7/8" hex head bolts (L), lock washers (N), and flat washers (M). Torque to 20 lb.-ft. (27.1 Nm). 4. Attach the air spring to the inboard slotted holes of the lower bracket with the vertical flange of the upper bracket on the outboard side. Note: There is a driver (left) and passenger (right) side unit.
Set the assembly on the leaf spring with the lower bracket flange over the rearward U-bolt and the vertical flange of the upper bracket on the outboard side of the frame rail. On the passenger (right) side, install the inboard carriage bolt (D) and clamp bar (E) first before placing the unit on the leaf spring; the inboard bolt goes up through the lower bracket with the nut on top, and the outboard bolt goes down. On the driver (left) side, both carriage bolts are installed down with the nut on the bottom of the clamp bar. Secure each carriage bolt with a flat washer (K) and 3/8" lock nut (J). Tighten all fasteners to 20 lb.-ft. (27.1 Nm).
1. Position the upper bracket (B) on the frame rail so it is aligned front to rear and inboard/outboard. Upper and lower brackets are slotted for adjustment. 2. Center punch one hole in the side of the frame rail. 3. Tighten the rearward bolt in the upper bracket to the air spring first. Now move the upper bracket away from the frame and tighten the front bolt. 4. Drill one 1/2" hole in the side of the frame rail. Before drilling, check for hydraulic lines, gas lines, and electrical wires that may need to be moved aside on either side of the frame. 5. Check alignment once again. Using the slots in the lower bracket, align the air spring so it is square, vertically and horizontally to the upper bracket. 6. Tighten the air spring mounting bolts to 20 lb.-ft. (27.1 Nm). Attach the upper bracket using one 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" bolt (F), 1/2" flat washer (H), 1/2" lock washer (G), and 1/2" hex nut (I).
1. Choose a convenient location for the inflation valves, typically in the wheel well or lower body ahead of the rear wheel, one on each side. Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole. 2. Cut the air line assembly (AA) in two equal lengths using a hose cutter, razor blade, or sharp knife. Make a clean, square cut to prevent leaks. Do not use wire cutters or scissors. 3. Place a 5/16" nut (GG) and star washer (FF) on the air valve, leaving approximately 1/2" (12.7 mm) of valve exposed after installation for a pressure gauge or air chuck. 4. Push the inflation valve through the hole and secure with rubber washer (EE), flat washer (DD), and another 5/16" nut (GG). 5. Route the air line along the frame to the air spring location on the leaf spring, behind the axle. Maintain at least 6" (152.4 mm) clearance from heat sources (exhaust, muffler, catalytic converter). Avoid sharp bends. Use zip ties (BB) to secure to fixed points, leaving at least 2" (50.8 mm) of slack. 6. Trim excess air line, leaving approximately 12" (304.8 mm) extra. Insert into the air fitting (push-to-connect) until it bottoms out; 5/8" (15.9 mm) of air line should be in the fitting. 7. On the passenger (right) side only, place a thermal sleeve (HH) on the air line near the exhaust before installing the air line.
Yes. You must drill one 1/2" hole in the side of the frame rail to attach the upper bracket. You must also drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole to install each inflation valve. Before drilling the frame, check for hydraulic lines, gas lines, and electrical wires that may need to be moved aside on either side of the frame.
Use a hose cutter (Air Lift P/N 10530), a razor blade, or a sharp knife to cut the air line. Make a clean, square cut to ensure against leaks. Do not use wire cutters or scissors, as these tools may flatten or crimp the air line, causing it to leak around the O-ring seal inside the elbow fitting.
The air spring mounting bolts (3/8-16 x 7/8" hex head bolts) should be torqued to 20 lb.-ft. (27.1 Nm). This applies to both the lower bracket attachment and the upper bracket attachment to the air spring.
The carriage bolts (3/8-16 x 3 1/2") securing the lower bracket to the leaf spring should be tightened to 20 lb.-ft. (27.1 Nm).
Tighten the 1/8" x 1/4" tube elbow fitting (O) to the air spring finger-tight plus 1 1/2 turns. Tighten the metal hex nut only. Do not overtighten.
The maximum inflation pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). However, the air pressure actually needed is dependent on load and gross vehicle weight rating. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI.
The minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR).
No. Compressed air can cause injury and damage to the vehicle and components if not handled properly. Do not try to inflate the air springs until they have been properly secured to the vehicle.
The LoadLifter 5000 provides up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) of load-leveling support. However, you must not exceed the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or payload rating as indicated by the vehicle manufacturer.
Maintain at least 6" (152.4 mm) of clearance between the air line and heat sources such as exhaust pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter. If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If there is no heat shield but one is required, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
After inflating the air springs to 40-60 PSI (2.8-4.1 BAR), ensure there is at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from anything that might rub against each sleeve. Check the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables.
Perform the following checks before operating: 1. Clearance test — Inflate to 40-60 PSI (2.8-4.1 BAR) and ensure at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. 2. Leak test — Inflate to 40-60 PSI and check all connections for leaks using a soapy water solution. All leaks must be eliminated before road testing. 3. Heat test — Verify at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from heat sources. Install any included heat shield. 4. Fastener test — Recheck all bolts for proper torque. 5. Road test — Drive the vehicle 10 miles (16 km) and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks.
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height.
If the system develops an air leak, use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core before deflating and removing the air spring. The soapy water will bubble at the location of any leak.
Yes, kit 57140 is designed for the Ford F-53 Class A. Verify your specific model year with Air Lift at (800) 248-0892.
Check with your dealer first. If your vehicle has a rear brake proportioning valve, brake performance could be affected. If it has no proportioning valve or has anti-lock brakes, there is no effect.
You need wrenches (7/16", 9/16"), ratchet with sockets (3/8", 9/16", 1/2"), drill bits (3/8", 5/16"), heavy duty drill, torque wrench, hose cutter or sharp knife, hoist or floor jacks, safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor, and soapy water spray.
Torque the 3/8-16 x 7/8" hex head bolts to 20 lb.-ft. (27.1 Nm). Also torque the carriage bolts to 20 lb.-ft. (27.1 Nm).
Maximum pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). Minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR). Actual pressure needed depends on load and GVWR.
Maintain at least 6" (152.4 mm) clearance between the air line and heat sources such as exhaust pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter. Use a thermal sleeve on the passenger side air line near the exhaust.
Perform clearance, leak, heat, fastener, and road tests. Inflate to 40-60 PSI and check for clearance from tires, brakes, frame, and shock absorbers. Check all connections for leaks. Verify heat clearance. Recheck bolt torque. Drive 10 miles and recheck.
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI (7 BAR).
Use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core. The solution will bubble at the location of any leak. Eliminate all leaks before road testing the vehicle.
A flattened or crimped air line will cause leaks around the O-ring seal inside the elbow fitting. To prevent this, use a hose cutter (Air Lift P/N 10530), a razor blade, or a sharp knife to cut the air line. Do not use wire cutters or scissors. Make a clean, square cut.
