Required tools include: standard and metric open-end or box wrenches and sockets; ratchet; flathead screwdriver; adjustable wrench; 5/16" (8 mm) drill bit (very sharp); heavy-duty drill; torque wrench; standard and metric hex-key wrenches; hose cutter, razor blade, or sharp knife; hoist or floor jacks; safety stands; safety glasses; air compressor or compressed air source; and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution for leak testing.

Yes. You must remove the jounce bumper assemblies from under the frame. Remove the clip-in studs by prying on the hinged end with a flathead screwdriver and pull all four studs (two from each side) out of the frame.
For SRW models, two modifications are required: (1) Pull the ABS tree mount out of the bracket behind the axle on the passenger's (right) side and leave it loose temporarily. (2) Bend the driver's (left) side brake line/axle vent tube bracket back 1/8" (3 mm) to gain clearance for the ABS line. Use an adjustable wrench under the brake hard line junction to make this bend, then reinstall the ABS tree mount.
The upper frame bracket (C) must be installed with the single slot inboard (away from the leaf spring and tire). The elongated hole should point toward the front of the truck. Torque the hardware to 38 lb.-ft. (52 Nm).

When attaching the lower bracket assembly, place the carriage bolt between or behind the hard brake line, behind the axle, whichever provides the most clearance. The brake line must not touch the carriage bolt. It may be necessary to adjust the brake line slightly to provide proper clearance.
Evenly torque the lower clamp bar (A) hardware to 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm).
Snug the U-bolt (G) hardware evenly first, just enough to hold the lower bracket flush against the stock U-bolts. Then finish tightening by torquing to 10 lb.-ft. (14 Nm).

Drilling is required only if you choose to install the Schrader valve (inflation valve) in a location that does not already have a hole. You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole in the chosen location. The manual suggests three options: inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or the license plate or rear bumper area.
On vehicles with a sway bar, it might be necessary to cut the rear carriage bolt so it does not contact the sway bar. This is a vehicle-specific modification that should be assessed during installation.
Cut the air line in half using a razor blade or hose cutter, making clean, square cuts. Do not use scissors or wire cutters. A good cut is straight across; a bad cut is angled or jagged.
Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis. Do not pinch or kink the air line. Leave at least 2" (50 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for any movement that might pull on the air line. The minimum bend radius for the air line is 1" (25 mm).
Keep at least 6" (150 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges. If a heat shield is included in the kit, install it by attaching it to the exhaust where it is closest to the passenger's (right) side air spring and sliding the air line thermal sleeve over the air line where it is closest to the exhaust.
Inflate the air spring to 30 PSI (2 BAR). Spray all connections and the inflation valves with a solution of liquid dish soap and water. Spot leaks easily by looking for bubbles in the soapy water. After the test, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore the system to normal ride height (not lower than 5 PSI [.34 BAR]). Check the air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2–4 PSI (.14–.28 BAR) loss after initial installation is normal. Retest for leaks if the loss is more than 5 PSI (.34 BAR).
If there is a problem with the swivel fitting: (1) Check the air line connection by deflating the spring and removing the line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly on the air line. Trim 1" (25 mm) off the end of the air line, ensuring the cut is clean and square. Reinsert the air line into the push-to-connect fitting. (2) Check the threaded connection by tightening the swivel fitting another half turn. If it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, and re-coat the threads with thread sealant. Reinstall by hand tightening as much as possible and then use a wrench for an additional two turns.
If there is a problem with the inflation valve: (1) Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. (2) Check the air line by removing the air line from the barbed fitting. Cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use a pair of pliers or vice grips to pull/twist the air line off of the fitting. Do not cut off the air line at the fitting because this could nick the barb and render the fitting useless.
Inflate the air springs to 40–50 PSI (2.8–3.5 BAR) and make sure there is at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from anything that might rub against each sleeve. Be sure to check the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables. After a 10-mile (16 km) road test, recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.
After installation, perform the following checks in order: (1) Clearance test at 40–50 PSI (2.8–3.5 BAR) with at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from tires, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables. (2) Leak test at 40–50 PSI (2.8–3.5 BAR) on all connections. (3) Heat test ensuring at least 6" (150 mm) clearance from heat sources. (4) Fastener test rechecking all bolts for proper torque. (5) Road test driving 10 miles (16 km) and rechecking for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks. (6) Overnight leak down test after 24 hours of use. (7) Thirty-day or 500-mile (800 km) test, whichever comes first, checking for rubbing or abrasion and fastener tightness.
The minimum recommended air pressure is 5 PSI (.34 BAR). The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). Never inflate beyond 100 PSI (7 BAR). Operating the vehicle below the minimum air spring pressure will void the Air Lift warranty.
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height. If the system develops an air leak, use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core before deflating and removing the air spring. Periodically check the air spring system fasteners for tightness and check the air springs for any signs of rubbing. On occasion, give the air springs a hard spray with a garden hose to remove mud, sand, gravel or other debris.
Loaded vehicles require at least 25 PSI (1.7 BAR). A "loaded vehicle" refers to a vehicle with a heavy bed load, a trailer or both. The springs in this kit will support approximately 40 pounds (18 kg) of load (combined on both springs) for each 1 PSI (.07 BAR) of pressure. The required air pressure will vary depending on the state of the original suspension. Never exceed GVWR, regardless of air spring, air pressure or other load assist.
No. Adding air springs will not change the weight ratings (GAWR, GCWR and/or GVWR) of a vehicle. Check the vehicle's owner's manual and do not exceed the maximum load listed for your vehicle. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle, including passengers and cargo. This number is shown on the vehicle's Safety Compliance Certification Label. Payload is the combined, maximum allowable weight of cargo and passengers that the truck is designed to carry. Payload is GVWR minus the base curb weight.
Pressure determination comes down to three things: level vehicle, ride comfort and stability. (1) Level vehicle: If the vehicle's headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, raise the air pressure to correct either of these problems. (2) Ride comfort: If the vehicle has a rough or harsh ride, try different pressures to determine the best ride comfort. (3) Stability: Stability translates into safety and should be the priority. Stability issues include roll control, bounce, dive during braking and sponginess. Tuning out these problems usually requires an increase in pressure.
Yes. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle. Loads such as water, fuel, and appliances will cause the vehicle to be heavier on one side. As much as a 50 PSI (3.5 BAR) difference is not uncommon.
If the system won't maintain pressure overnight, the cause is likely an improperly installed air line, or the air line has holes or cracks. Leak test the air line connections, the threaded connection into the air spring, and all fittings in the control system. Check to make sure air lines are seated in connectors. Inspect fittings with soapy water. Trim hose or re-seal fitting. Ensure lines are cut straight.
If a corner won't raise or an air leak develops, look for a kink or fold in the air line. Replace any air line that has been kinked.

No. Air pressure can be adjusted with any type of compressor as long as it can produce sufficient pressure to service the springs. Even a bicycle tire pump can be used, but it's a lot of work.
No. The vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands in order to take the tension off of the air springs.
If it is necessary to raise the vehicle by the frame, make sure the system is at minimum pressure (5 PSI [.34 BAR]) to reduce the tension on the suspension/brake components. Use of on-board leveling systems do not require deflation or disconnection.
