The LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate is an adjustable air helper spring kit designed for 3/4 and 1 ton pickups, SUVs, and motorhomes with leaf springs. It uses reinforced, commercial-grade convolute bellows with an internal jounce bumper that absorbs shock and allows the springs to safely run at zero air pressure. The system provides up to 5,000 lbs of load leveling support with air adjustability from 5–100 PSI.
No. Installing air springs will not change the GAWR, GCWR, or GVWR of your vehicle. You must not exceed your vehicle's GVWR, as stated in your vehicle manufacturer's documentation. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.

Required tools include a jack and safety jack stands, a 9/16" open-end wrench, a standard tube cutter or razor blade/sharp knife for cutting air line, a drill with a 5/16" bit, and a valve core tool. A hoist is helpful but not required if you have a jack and stands. A wrench is needed to tighten the air fitting.
Normal ride height is the distance between the bottom edge of the fenderwell to the center point of the wheel with the vehicle in an "as delivered condition" (without load, tool box, camper, etc.). You must measure and record this distance before beginning installation. All LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate kits are designed to be installed and operated at normal ride height. After installation, the vehicle is lowered and air springs are deflated until the vehicle sits at the recorded normal ride height measurement.
The upper bracket bolts (two 3/8"x16x1 hex head bolts) should be torqued to 15–20 ft·lbs.
The U-bolt nuts on the axle housing should be torqued to 45–50 ft·lbs after the air spring assembly is aligned so that the bellows is straight up and down.
The bolts holding the bellows to the lower bracket should be torqued to 15–20 ft·lbs.
The three 3/8" self-tapping bolts attaching the upper mounting bracket to the upper frame rail should be torqued to 15–20 ft·lbs.
Yes. You must drill three 5/16" holes into the bottom of the square section frame rail and inside of the frame rail to attach the upper mounting bracket. The locations are marked by aligning the air spring assembly on the axle housing and marking the bracket holes.
Installation of the LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate may require an exhaust heat shield. The heat shield is attached to the exhaust pipe with flanges bent toward the air bellows. It may be trimmed or bent to prevent contact with the bellows or hardware during suspension travel. There must be a minimum of a "thumbs width" of space between the exhaust pipe, the shield, and the bellows. If a heat shield is included in your kit, install it. If one is required but not included, call (800) 248-0892.
Use a standard tube cutter, razor blade, or very sharp knife to cut the air line. A clean square cut prevents leaks. The air line assembly is cut into two equal parts. A 5/16" hole is drilled for the inflation valves. When installing the air line into the push-to-connect fitting, push and slightly turn the cut end of the air line into the fitting as far as it will go (9/16"). You will hear or feel a definite "click" when the air line is seated.
The air line must be kept at least 12 inches from the exhaust system to prevent melting. Route the air line so it is protected from direct heat from the muffler or tailpipe and kept away from sharp edges. The air line should not be bent or curved sharply. Use a thermal sleeve on the exhaust side if necessary.

The recommended minimum air pressure is 5 PSI. However, the LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate can safely be run at zero air pressure because the internal jounce bumper replaces the factory bumper and allows safe operation without air.
There must be at least 1/2" clearance around each bellows, away from anything that might rub against them. Be sure to check the tire, brake drum, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. This clearance must be verified at 60 PSI inflation during the post-installation clearance test.
There must be at least 6" clearance between air springs and air lines and any heat sources. If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If there is no heat shield but one is required, call (800) 248-0892.
Inflate the air springs to 60 PSI. Spray all connections, the inflation valves, and fittings with a solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water. Look for bubbles in the soapy water to spot leaks. After the test, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore normal ride height, but not less than 5 PSI. Check the air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2–4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If the loss is more than 5 lbs, retest for leaks.
After completing the clearance, leak, heat, and fastener tests, road test the vehicle. Inflate the air springs to 25 PSI (or 50 PSI if the vehicle is loaded). Drive the vehicle 10 miles and recheck for clearance around the bellows, loose fasteners, and air leaks.
Recheck all bolts for proper torque after installation. Axle clamp bar carriage bolt lock nuts should be torqued to 16 ft/lbs and re-torqued after 100 miles. After 30 days or 500 miles (whichever comes first), recheck the air spring system and check all fasteners for tightness.
Check the air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height. Regardless of load, the air pressure should always be adjusted to maintain ride height at all times.
Loaded vehicles require at least 25 PSI or more. A "loaded vehicle" refers to a vehicle with a heavy bed load, a trailer, or both. The springs in this kit will support approximately 40 lbs of load (combined on both springs) for each 1 PSI of pressure. Never exceed your vehicle's GVWR, regardless of air spring pressure or other load assist.
On occasion, give the air springs a hard spray with a garden hose to remove mud, sand, gravel, or other abrasive debris.
Recheck the air spring system after 30 days or 500 miles, whichever comes first. If any part shows signs of rubbing or abrasion, identify and move the source if possible. If relocation is not possible, the air spring may need to be remounted. If professionally installed, consult the installer. Check all fasteners for tightness.
First, use a soapy water solution (1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water) to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core. Inspect the air lines to ensure none are pinched (tie straps may be too tight). Loosen or replace the strap and replace leaking components. Inspect the air line for holes and cracks and replace as needed. Look for a kink or fold in the air line and reroute as needed. If these steps do not solve the problem, call Air Lift Technical Service at 1-800-248-0892.
If there is a problem with the swivel fitting: (1) Check the air line connection by deflating the spring and removing the line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly on the air line. Trim 1" off the end of the air line, ensuring the cut is clean and square. Reinsert the air line into the push-to-connect fitting. (2) Check the threaded connection by tightening the swivel fitting another 1/2 turn. If it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, and re-coat the threads with thread sealant. Reinstall by hand-tightening as much as possible, then use a wrench for an additional two turns.
If there is a problem with the inflation valve: (1) Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. (2) Check the air line connection by removing the air line from the barbed-type fitting. Do not cut it off, as this will usually nick the barb and render the fitting useless. Instead, cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use a pair of pliers or vise-grips to pull/twist the air line off the fitting.
Recheck the air pressure after the vehicle has been used for 24 hours. If the pressure has dropped more than 5 PSI, there is a leak that must be fixed. Either fix the leak yourself or return to the installer for service.
If the vehicle has a rough or harsh ride, it may be due to either too much pressure or not enough. Try different pressures to determine the best ride comfort. If the vehicle rocks and rolls, adjust the air pressure to reduce movement. Always add air in small quantities, checking the pressure frequently.
If the vehicle's headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, it is not level. Raise the air pressure to correct either of these problems and level the vehicle. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle. Loads such as water, fuel, and appliances will cause the vehicle to be heavier on one side. As much as a 50 PSI difference is not uncommon.
Stability translates into safety and should be the priority. Stability issues include roll control, bounce, dive during braking, and sponginess. Tuning out these problems usually requires an increase in pressure. If the front of the vehicle dives while braking, increase the pressure in the front air bags if equipped. If it is suspected that the air bags have bottomed out, increase the pressure.
