The LoadLifter 5000 Series kits (part numbers 57399, 88399, and 89399) are designed for 2017-current Ford Super Duty 4WD vehicles with single or dual rear wheels. The kits are recommended for 3/4- and 1-ton pickups and SUVs with leaf springs.
The three versions differ in roll plate material, air line type, and hardware finish. Standard LoadLifter 5000 (kit 57399) has zinc-plated steel roll plates and black nylon air lines. LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate (kit 88399) has black powder-coated roll plates and black nylon air lines. LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus (kit 89399) has stainless steel roll plates, braided stainless steel air lines, and stainless steel air spring mounting hardware. All versions include an internal jounce bumper except the standard version.
Yes. Air Lift offers two upgrade kits: part number 52300 (braided stainless steel air line and fittings) and part number 52301 (stainless steel roll plates, air spring mounting hardware, braided stainless steel air lines and fittings).
LoadLifter 5000 Series kits provide up to 5,000 pounds of load-leveling support with air adjustability from 5 to 100 PSI.
No. The installation of this kit does not alter the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or payload of the vehicle. You must check your vehicle's owner's manual and not exceed the maximum load listed for your vehicle. GVWR is the maximum allowable weight of the fully loaded vehicle including passengers and cargo. Payload is GVWR minus the base curb weight.
Required tools include: standard and metric open-end or box wrenches, ratchet, standard and metric sockets, 5/16" drill bit (very sharp), heavy-duty drill, torque wrench, standard and metric hex-key wrenches, hose cutter/razor blade/sharp knife, hoist or floor jacks, safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892 for clarification on this requirement.
Raise the vehicle and support it using jack stands or equivalent so that the axle can be safely dropped away from the frame. This is necessary to position the air spring assembly between the axle and frame.
You must unbolt and remove the jounce bumper assembly from under the frame on both sides, and remove the clip-in studs by prying on the hinged end with a screwdriver. Pull all four studs (two from each side) out from the frame.
The upper air spring bracket (E) must be installed using one set of holes on the first air spring, and the remaining bracket must use the opposite holes on the second air spring. This creates left- and right-hand units. The bracket with the slot should be positioned inboard away from the leaf spring and tire, with the elongated hole toward the front of the truck.
The upper frame bracket (D) bolts should be torqued to 38 lb.-ft. (52 Nm). These are the M10-1.5 x 35mm button-head cap screws (J) and 3/8"-16 x 1.25" carriage bolts (I).
The upper air spring bracket (E) should be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). This applies to the 3/8"-24 x 7/8" hex-cap screw (T), 3/8" lock washer (U), and 3/8" flat washer (N or V).
The lower bracket main plate (B) should be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). This applies to the 3/8"-24 x 3/4" flat-head socket cap screws (S).
Install the lower bracket cup (C) onto the lower bracket main plate using the 5/16"-18 x 3/4" carriage bolt (L), M8 flat washer (O), and 5/16"-18 nylon lock nut (Q). Snug the bolt down but leave it loose enough for the bracket to move freely in the slot. The specific torque value for this bolt is not provided in the manual.
On the driver's side (left), the long carriage bolt in the lower bracket main plate should be located between the hard brake line and axle. On the passenger's side (right), the carriage bolt should be located on the backside of the brake line. If the hard brake line is resting on the lower bracket carriage bolt, you must push or pull the brake line out of the way.
The lower clamp bar (A) hardware should be evenly torqued to 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm). These are the 3/8" flat washers (N) and 3/8"-16 nylon lock nuts (M).
The U-bolt (H) hardware should be torqued to 10 lb.-ft. (14 Nm). These are the 3/8" flat washers (N) and 3/8"-16 nylon lock nuts (M).
The upper air spring bracket carriage bolts should be snugged first, then torqued to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm). These are the 3/8" flat washers (N) and 3/8"-16 nylon lock nuts (M).
On vehicles with an anti-roll bar, it may be necessary to cut the rear carriage bolt so it does not contact the anti-roll bar.
Yes. You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for each Schrader valve location if one does not already exist. The manual recommends three possible locations: inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or the license plate or rear bumper area. For LoadLifter Ultimate Plus kits, the recommended location is the rear bumper area or license plate.
Make clean, square cuts with a razor blade or hose cutter. Do not use scissors or wire cutters.
The minimum bend radius for nylon air line is 1" (25 mm).
Leave at least 2" (51 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for any movement that might pull on the air line.
Tighten the air line hex nut finger tight, then use 2 wrenches to turn 1 additional flat (1/6 of one full turn). Do not overtighten. The easiest way to tighten the fitting is off the vehicle before installation.
No. The braided stainless steel air line cannot be trimmed. Coil and secure any excess air line in an area where it will not be susceptible to damage.
Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis every 6" to 8" (152 to 203 mm). Leave at least 2" (51 mm) of slack to allow for any movement that might pull on the air line.
Keep at least 6" (152 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges.
Keep the air line away from the fuel line, brake lines, and electrical wires.
Attach the metal heat shield to the exhaust where it is closest to the air spring. Slide the air line thermal sleeve over the air line and place it where the air line is closest to the exhaust. Maintain at least 1/2" (13 mm) dead air space between the air line and exhaust. Double up hose clamps if necessary.
Perform five tests after installation: (1) Clearance test—inflate air springs to 40-60 PSI and ensure at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables; (2) Leak test—inflate to 40-60 PSI and check all connections for leaks before road testing; (3) Heat test—ensure at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from heat sources; (4) Fastener test—recheck all bolts for proper torque; (5) Road test—drive 10 miles (16 km) and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.
The maximum inflation pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). However, the air pressure actually needed is dependent on load and gross vehicle weight rating. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI.
The minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR).
Check air pressure weekly.
Use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core before deflating and removing the air spring.
Yes. Always maintain normal ride height. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI (7 BAR).
Yes, the LoadLifter 5000 Series kits (57399, 88399, 89399) are designed for 2017-current Ford Super Duty 4WD vehicles with single or dual rear wheels.
Yes. You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for each Schrader valve location. A heavy-duty drill with a very sharp 5/16" bit is required.
A torque wrench is required. Key torque specifications are: upper frame bracket 38 lb.-ft. (52 Nm), upper air spring bracket 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm), lower bracket main plate 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm), lower clamp bar 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm), U-bolt 10 lb.-ft. (14 Nm), and upper air spring bracket carriage bolts at frame 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm).
No. The installation does not alter GVWR or payload. You must not exceed the maximum load listed in your vehicle's owner's manual.
Yes. Raise the vehicle and support it on jack stands so the axle can be safely dropped away from the frame to position the air spring assembly.
Keep at least 6" (152 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Install a heat shield if the air line is within 6" of the exhaust.
Maximum inflation pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). Never exceed this pressure.
Perform a clearance test at 40-60 PSI (check tire, brakes, frame, shocks, cables), leak test, heat test (6" minimum from heat sources), fastener torque check, and a 10-mile road test.
Check air pressure weekly.
Push or pull the brake line out of the way. It is necessary to push the hard brake line away from the lower bracket carriage bolt if the line is resting on it. This prevents damage to the brake line and ensures proper clearance.
The nut that holds the lower bracket main plate and lower bracket cup together may be difficult to tighten. It may be necessary to flip the wrench over a couple of times and/or move from the front/back side of the axle to get this tightened.
Use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core. All leaks must be eliminated before the vehicle is road tested. If a leak is found, deflate and remove the air spring to repair the connection.
Inflate the air springs to 40-60 PSI and ensure there is at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from anything that might rub. Check the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables. If clearance is insufficient, the installation may need adjustment.
