No. Installing air springs will not change the weight ratings (GAWR, GCWR, or GVWR) of your vehicle. You must not exceed your vehicle's GVWR, as stated in your vehicle's owner's manual. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty. The installation does not alter the gross vehicle weight rating or payload.
Required tools include: hoist or floor jacks, two safety stands, safety glasses, torque wrench, 7/16" and 9/16" open-end or box wrenches, crescent wrench, 3/8" nut driver, ratchet with 9/16", metric, and 1/2" deep well sockets, very sharp 3/8" and 5/16" drill bits, heavy duty drill, hose cutter or sharp knife, and air compressor or compressed air source. You will also need a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution for leak testing.
The manual does not mention disconnecting the battery. No battery disconnection is required for this installation.
Tighten the 3/8" bolts and 3/8" lock washers that attach the air spring to the upper bracket to 20 lb.-ft. using a torque wrench.

Use very sharp 5/16" drill bits and a heavy duty drill. The manual includes a drilling template on page 14 that must be printed at 100% scale to ensure accurate hole placement.
Yes, the jounce bumper must be removed or modified. For late model GMC/Chevy vehicles, use a screwdriver to pry the rubber jounce bumper from the metal bracket, then insert a 1/2" carriage bolt into the jounce bumper track. Some models have a small tab that interferes with upper bracket mounting and must be bent back with a hammer or ground off. For all Dodge and early model GMC/Chevy vehicles, the entire jounce bumper and bracket assembly must be removed by unbolting, chiseling, or grinding so that the bottom of the frame rail is smooth.
Possibly. On some early GMC/Chevy models, a small tab at the end of the jounce bumper slot may interfere with upper bracket mounting and will need to be bent back with a hammer or ground off. On all Dodge and early model GMC/Chevy vehicles, the jounce bumper and bracket assembly must be removed by unbolting, chiseling, or grinding so that the bottom of the frame rail is smooth. These are permanent modifications to the frame.
Drill 5/16" holes to install the inflation valves. The valve should extend approximately 1/2" beyond the hole after installation to allow easy application of a pressure gauge or air chuck.
Choose a convenient location with enough clearance around the inflation valves for an air chuck. Popular locations include: the wheel well flanges, the license plate recess in the bumper, under the gas cap access door, or through the license plate.

Do not bend the 1/4" hose at a radius of less than 1" or bend the 3/8" hose at a radius of less than 1½". Do not put side load pressure on the fitting. The hose should be straight beyond the fitting for 1" before bending.
Route the air line along the frame to the fitting on the air spring, maintaining at least 6" of clearance between the air line and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges. Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis. Tie straps should be tight but not pinch the air line. Leave at least 2" of slack to allow for any movement that might pull on the air line.
Cut the air line leaving approximately 12" of extra length with a clean square cut. Insert the air line into the push-to-connect fitting on the air spring. Wiggle the hose back and forth while inserting to ensure the hose bottoms out in the fitting to obtain a good seal.
A heat shield is included in the kit. You must install it to maintain at least 6" of clearance between the air springs and air lines and heat sources such as the exhaust system. Bend the tabs on the heat shield to provide a 1/2" dead air space between the exhaust pipe and heat shield, then attach it to the exhaust pipe using the clamps provided. Bend the heat shield for maximum clearance to the air spring.
The minimum recommended air pressure is 5 PSI. The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI. The air springs can safely be run at zero air pressure when the vehicle is unladen (no load), but for normal operation maintain at least 5 PSI to restore the system to normal ride height.
Loaded vehicles require at least 25 PSI. A "loaded vehicle" refers to a vehicle with a heavy bed load, a trailer, or both. The springs in this kit will support approximately 40 pounds of load (combined on both springs) for each 1 PSI of pressure. Operating the vehicle below the minimum air spring pressure will void the Air Lift warranty.
No. You must never exceed your vehicle's GVWR, regardless of air spring pressure or other load assist. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty. Check your vehicle's owner's manual for the maximum load listed for your vehicle. The GVWR is shown on the vehicle's Safety Compliance Certification Label.
Before operating, perform the following checks: (1) Clearance test — inflate to 75-90 PSI and ensure at least 1/2" clearance from tires, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables; (2) Leak test — inflate to 75-90 PSI and check all connections for leaks; (3) Heat test — ensure at least 6" clearance from heat sources; (4) Fastener test — recheck all bolts for proper torque; (5) Road test — drive 10 miles and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks; (6) Overnight leak down test — recheck pressure after 24 hours; if pressure drops more than 5 PSI, there is a leak that must be fixed.
Inflate the air springs to 30 PSI. Spray all connections and inflation valves with a solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water. Spot leaks by looking for bubbles in the soapy water. After testing, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore normal ride height (at least 5 PSI). Check the air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If the loss is more than 5 PSI, retest for leaks.

Yes, the vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off the air springs. Use of on-board leveling systems do not require deflation or disconnection.
Pressure tuning depends on three factors: level vehicle, ride comfort, and stability. (1) Level vehicle — if headlights shine into trees or vehicle leans to one side, raise air pressure to level it; (2) Ride comfort — if the ride is rough or harsh, try different pressures to find the best comfort; (3) Stability — prioritize stability over a perfectly level and comfortable ride. Stability issues include roll control, bounce, dive during braking, and sponginess, which usually require increased pressure. Start with the vehicle level or slightly above. When in doubt, always add air. If the front dives while braking, increase front air bag pressure. If air bags have bottomed out, increase pressure. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle, with differences up to 50 PSI not uncommon.
If the system won't maintain pressure overnight, there is likely an air leak. Perform a leak test on the air line connections, the threaded connection into the air spring, and all fittings in the control system. Check to make sure air lines are seated in connectors. Inspect fittings with soapy water. If a leak is found, trim 1" off the end of the air line with a clean square cut and reinsert it into the fitting, or re-seal the fitting with thread sealant. Ensure lines are cut straight. A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal, but if the loss is more than 5 PSI, there is a leak that must be fixed.
Look for a kink or fold in the air line. Replace any air line that has been kinked. Kinked lines prevent proper air flow and cause leaks.
If there is a problem with the swivel fitting: (1) Check the air line connection by deflating the spring and removing the line by pulling the collar against the fitting and pulling firmly on the air line. Trim 1" off the end of the air line with a clean square cut. Reinsert the air line into the push-to-connect fitting. (2) Check the threaded connection by tightening the swivel fitting another half turn. If it still leaks, deflate the air spring, remove the fitting, and re-coat the threads with thread sealant. If there is a problem with the inflation valve: (1) Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. (2) Check the air line by removing the air line from the barbed type fitting. Cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use a pair of pliers or vice grips to pull/twist the air line off of the fitting. Do not cut off the air line completely as this will usually nick the barb and render the fitting useless.
