The LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate is an adjustable air helper spring system designed for 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups and SUVs with leaf springs. It provides up to 5,000 pounds of load-leveling support with air adjustability from 5–100 PSI. The kit uses reinforced, commercial-grade convolute bellows manufactured like a tire with layers of rubber and cords to control growth. It helps level the vehicle under load and improves ride comfort and stability.

1. Raise the vehicle and remove the wheels. 2. Obtain normal ride height using jacks and safety stands. 3. Remove the emergency brake cable bracket from the driver-side spring retainer and save the bolt for later use. 4. Remove both jounce bumpers from under the frame above the axle and save them for later use. Verify that at least 8 inches of clearance exists between the tire and frame before proceeding.
1. Set a roll plate (D) on both ends of the air spring (A) with the radiused edge toward the spring. 2. Install a 90° elbow fitting (E) to the top of the air spring, tightening finger tight plus 1.5 turns on the metal hex nut only—do not over-tighten. 3. Install the upper bracket (B) using the rearward holes on the left (driver's) side and the most rearward holes on the right (passenger's) side. Attach with two 3/8 inch bolts (F), lock washers (G), and flat washers (H), tightening to 20 lb-ft. 4. Use the template on page 16 to determine correct mounting holes on the lower bracket (C) based on your vehicle's GVWR. 5. Insert two carriage bolts (J) into the lower bracket and attach the air spring assembly using two 3/8 inch bolts (F), lock washers (G), and flat washers (H), tightening to 20 lb-ft.
1. Set the assembly on the leaf spring forward of the axle, with the rear of the lower bracket hooked around the forward U-bolt. 2. Using existing holes in the frame, loosely attach the upper bracket (B) with a 1/2 inch HHCS bolt (I), two 1/2 inch flat washers (K), and 1/2 inch nylon lock nut (L) through both lower mounting holes. The upper bracket goes around the sway bar mount. 3. If no existing holes align, raise the axle so the upper bracket is just below the frame and parallel to the lower bracket, mark all four holes, drop the axle, remove the assembly, and drill the holes. 4. Center punch the mounting holes. 5. Drill 1/2 inch holes for both upper mounting holes (or all four if needed). 6. Secure the bracket to the frame with 1/2 inch HHCS bolts (I), 1/2 inch flat washers (K), and 1/2 inch nylon lock nuts (L), tightening to 80 lb-ft. 7. Attach the lower bracket to the leaf spring using the clamp bar (N), 3/8 inch flat washers (H), and 3/8 inch nylon lock nuts (M), tightening the carriage bolt hardware to 16 lb-ft.
Two types of drilling are required: 1. Drill 1/2 inch holes in the frame for the upper bracket mounting. Some vehicles have existing holes that can be used; others require new holes to be drilled. Center punch the holes before drilling. 2. Drill 5/16 inch holes to install the inflation valves at your chosen location (wheel well flanges, license plate recess, under gas cap access door, or through license plate). Use very sharp drill bits and a heavy-duty drill.
Torque specifications are: 3/8 inch bolts connecting the air spring assembly to the upper and lower brackets: 20 lb-ft. 1/2 inch HHCS bolts securing the upper bracket to the frame: 80 lb-ft. Carriage bolt hardware attaching the lower bracket to the leaf spring: 16 lb-ft. The 90° elbow fitting at the top of the air spring should be tightened finger tight plus 1.5 turns on the metal hex nut only—do not over-tighten.
1. Choose a convenient location for the inflation valves: wheel well flanges, license plate recess, under gas cap access door, or through license plate. Ensure clearance for an air chuck. 2. Drill 5/16 inch holes for the valves. 3. Cut the air line assembly into two equal lengths using a sharp knife or hose cutter with clean, square cuts. 4. Place a 5/16 inch nut and star washer on the air valve, leaving approximately 1/2 inch of valve exposed for a pressure gauge or air chuck. 5. Push the valve through the hole and secure with a rubber washer, flat washer, and another 5/16 inch nut. 6. Route the air line along the frame to the fitting on the air spring, maintaining at least 6 inches clearance from the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges. Use zip ties to secure the line to fixed points, keeping ties tight but not pinching the line. Leave at least 2 inches of slack for movement. 7. Cut the air line leaving approximately 12 inches of extra length. Make a clean square cut and insert into the push-to-connect fitting, wiggling the hose back and forth to ensure it bottoms out for a good seal.
Use a sharp knife or hose cutter to make clean, square cuts. Do not use scissors or wire cutters, as these tools may deform the air line and cause leaks around fittings. Do not cut lines at an angle. Do not bend the 1/4 inch hose at a radius of less than 1 inch or the 3/8 inch hose at a radius of less than 1.5 inches. Do not put side load pressure on fittings. The hose should be straight beyond the fitting for 1 inch before bending. Inspect hose for lengthwise scratches before installation and contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892 if the air line is damaged.
The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI. Although the air springs are rated at a maximum inflation pressure of 100 PSI, the actual air pressure needed depends on load and GVWR. Always maintain normal ride height and do not exceed the vehicle's maximum GVWR, regardless of air spring pressure or other load assist.
The recommended minimum air pressure is 5 PSI. However, the air springs can safely be run at zero air pressure when the vehicle is unladen (no load). For loaded vehicles (heavy bed load, trailer, or both), maintain at least 25 PSI. Operating the vehicle below the minimum air spring pressure will void the Air Lift warranty.
No. Installing air springs will not change the weight ratings (GAWR, GCWR, and/or GVWR) of your vehicle. The installation of this kit does not alter the gross vehicle weight rating or payload. You must not exceed the maximum load listed in your vehicle's owner's manual. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Perform the following checks in order: 1. Clearance test—Inflate to 75–90 PSI and verify at least 1/2 inch clearance from anything that might rub (tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, brake cables). 2. Leak test—Inflate to 75–90 PSI and check all connections for leaks; all leaks must be eliminated before road testing. 3. Heat test—Verify at least 6 inches clearance from heat sources for air springs and air lines. 4. Fastener test—Recheck all bolts for proper torque. 5. Road test—Drive 10 miles at recommended driving pressures and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks. 6. Overnight leak-down test—After 24 hours of use, recheck air pressure. A 2–4 PSI loss is normal; if loss exceeds 5 PSI, there is a leak that must be fixed. 7. Thirty-day or 500-mile test—Recheck the system after 30 days or 500 miles (whichever comes first) for signs of rubbing or abrasion. Check all fasteners for tightness.
1. Inflate the air spring to 30 PSI. 2. Spray all connections and inflation valves with a solution of 1 part liquid dish soap and 4 parts water. Spot leaks by looking for bubbles in the soapy water. 3. After testing, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore normal ride height, but not lower than 5 PSI. 4. Check air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2–4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If loss exceeds 5 PSI, retest for leaks and identify the source.

Pressure determination comes down to three things: level vehicle, ride comfort, and stability. 1. Level vehicle—If headlights shine into trees or the vehicle leans to one side, raise air pressure to level it. 2. Ride comfort—If the ride is rough or harsh, try different pressures to find the best comfort. 3. Stability—Prioritize stability over a perfectly level and comfortable ride. Stability issues include roll control, bounce, dive during braking, and sponginess; these usually require an increase in pressure. Start with the vehicle level or slightly above. When in doubt, always add air. If the front dives while braking, increase pressure in the front air bags if equipped. If air bags have bottomed out, increase pressure. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle; loads such as water, fuel, and appliances can cause differences of up to 50 PSI.
The system may have an improperly installed air line, or the air line may have holes or cracks. Leak test the air line connections, the threaded connection into the air spring, and all fittings in the control system. Check to make sure air lines are seated in connectors. Inspect fittings with soapy water. If needed, trim 1 inch off the hose end with a clean square cut and reinsert, or re-seal the fitting. Ensure lines are cut straight. If the leak is at the threaded connection, tighten the swivel fitting another half turn. 1. Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. 2. Check the air line by removing it from the barbed-type fitting. Cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use pliers or vice grips to pull or twist the air line off the fitting. Do not cut off the air line completely, as this will usually nick the barb and render the fitting useless.
