ARIES 3" side bars are more than a fancy decal for your truck, Jeep or SUV. They are a confident first step on each new adventure. These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Chevy C2500, C3500, K2500 or K3500 and GMC C2500, C3500, K2500 or K3500 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. These step pads feature a textured pattern for enhanced safety, and they cover a wide portion of the tubes for a more comfortable step.

The ARIES 204041 3-Inch Round Black Steel Nerf Bars, No-Drill, Fits Select Chevrolet, GMC C, K (Part #BBDR204041) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The kit includes two side bars (driver and passenger), four mounting brackets (two front, two rear), four support brackets (two front, two rear), and all required fasteners: M12 and M10 hex bolts, lock washers, flat washers, hex nuts, and two plastic spacer washers. A complete parts list with part numbers is provided in the manual.
Yes. The manual specifies that 1973–1980 models use 1/2" × 5" front mounting bolts, while 1981–1987 models use 1/2" × 3-1/2" front mounting bolts. Both bolt sizes are included in the kit.
The manual does not specify required tools. However, it recommends that proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time. A drill with a 12mm bit is essential, as the installation requires drilling two holes in the leaf spring hanger back plate and two holes in the front spring hanger. Standard wrenches and sockets for M10, M12, 1/2", and 12mm fasteners are needed.
Yes, depending on its condition. The manual states: "Depending on its condition, you may be able to reuse your existing bolt." If the bolt is damaged or worn, replace it with the appropriate size: 1/2" × 5" for 1973–1980 models or 1/2" × 3-1/2" for 1981–1987 models.
1. Install front mounting bracket to the front cab mount bolt. 2. Install rear mounting bracket to the rear body hold-down bolt on the frame rail. 3. Bolt the side bar to the front and rear brackets. 4. Check clearance between the step bar and rocker panel; use plastic spacer washers if needed. 5. Install the front support bracket to the frame and step bar mounting bracket. 6. Drill and install the rear support bracket to the leaf spring hanger back plate. 7. Drill and install the rear support bracket to the front spring hanger. 8. Check alignment, make final adjustments, and tighten all bolts. 9. Repeat for the opposite side.
Position the front support bracket inside the step bar mounting bracket with the 90° end facing the frame rail and the closed end facing toward the front of the vehicle. When positioned correctly, the support bracket mounting hole will align with an existing slotted hole in the vehicle frame. Secure it using M10 × 30mm hex head bolts with lock washers, flat washers, and hex nuts.
Two drilling locations are required: (1) One 12mm hole per side in the leaf spring hanger back plate for the rear bracket, and (2) one 12mm hole per side in the lower inside edge of the front spring hanger for the rear support bracket. The manual recommends temporarily positioning the brackets, ensuring the side bar is level to the vehicle, and marking the hole locations before drilling.
Yes. The installation requires drilling two 12mm holes per side into the leaf spring hanger back plate and front spring hanger. These are permanent modifications to the vehicle frame.
M6 bolt: 3 ft.-lbs.; M8 bolt: 7 ft.-lbs.; M10 bolt: 16 ft.-lbs.; M12 bolt: 28 ft.-lbs. SAE equivalents: 1/4" bolt: 3 ft.-lbs.; 5/16" bolt: 7 ft.-lbs.; 3/8" bolt: 16 ft.-lbs.; 7/16" bolt: 20 ft.-lbs.; 1/2" bolt: 28 ft.-lbs. The kit uses M10 and M12 bolts, so apply 16 ft.-lbs. for M10 and 28 ft.-lbs. for M12.
Plastic spacer washers (M19) are used to adjust clearance between the step bar and the rocker panel if additional clearance is necessary. They are installed between the flat washer on the bottom side of the cab bushing and the front step bar mounting brackets. Two spacer washers are included in the kit.
After bolting the side bar to the front and rear brackets, visually inspect the gap between the step bar and rocker panel. If the clearance is insufficient, use the included plastic spacer washers between the flat washer on the bottom side of the cab bushing and the front step bar mounting brackets to increase clearance.
Wax the product after installation. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. For gloss black finishes, mild soap may be used to clean the product. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish.
Check the alignment of the step bar and make any final adjustments before fully tightening all bolts. After installation, check fasteners periodically and re-tighten as necessary. The manual does not specify a re-tightening interval.
Yes. The manual specifies hand-tightening at multiple stages: the front cab mount bolt (Step 1), the rear body hold-down bolt (Step 2), and the rear step bar mounting bolt (Step 6). This allows for alignment and clearance checks before final tightening to the specified torque values.
1. Temporarily support the side bar to the leaf spring hanger back plate. 2. Ensure the side bar is level to the vehicle. 3. Mark the hole location on the back plate. 4. Move the rear bracket away and drill a 12mm hole. 5. Mount the bracket and side bar using an M12 hex bolt. 6. Repeat on the other side.
1. Remove the rear step bar mounting bolt. 2. Position the rear support bracket so it spans from the step bar mounting hole to the lower edge of the front spring hanger. 3. Install the step bar mounting bolt and hand-tighten. 4. Mark the location on the spring hanger for the mounting hole. 5. Drill a 12mm hole. 6. Secure the bracket using an M12 hex head bolt, lock washer, flat washer, and hex nut.
Yes. The kit includes both 1/2" × 5" bolts for 1973–1980 models and 1/2" × 3-1/2" bolts for 1981–1987 models.
Yes. Installation requires drilling two 12mm holes per side: one in the leaf spring hanger back plate and one in the front spring hanger.
28 ft.-lbs. for M12 bolts. M10 bolts should be torqued to 16 ft.-lbs.
The kit includes M12 and M10 hex bolts, lock washers, flat washers, hex nuts, 1/2" bolts and nuts, and two plastic spacer washers. See the parts list for complete quantities and part numbers.
Wax after installation and regularly thereafter. Use only mild soap for cleaning gloss black finishes. Do not use abrasive polish or wax.
Use the included plastic spacer washers between the flat washer and the front step bar mounting brackets to increase clearance.
Yes. Check fasteners periodically and re-tighten as necessary. The manual does not specify a re-tightening interval.
