The ARIES Rear TrailChaser™ is a replacement rear bumper available in aluminum or steel with a textured black powder coat finish. It consists of a center section, two side extensions (driver and passenger), mounting brackets, and all required hardware. LED work lights are included with some kit configurations (2082061 aluminum and 2082060 steel) and not included with others (2082036 aluminum and 2082038 steel). The kit includes M12 and M10 hex bolts, washers, lock washers, nuts, and button head bolts as specified in the parts list.
The manual does not specify the vehicle make, model, or year compatibility. Contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 or check ariesautomotive.com to confirm fitment for your vehicle before purchasing.
You will need a torque wrench, socket set (including 16mm, 18mm sockets), level, and Allen wrench set. The manual specifies a 16mm socket for removing factory bumper support bracket bolts, an 18mm socket for removing stock tow hook bolts and for snugging M12 bolts during installation.
Yes. Step 6 explicitly states 'With help, lift the new bumper center section over the frame rails.' At least one additional person is required to safely lift and position the bumper center section during installation.
Yes. The manual states: 'Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly.' This helps ensure you understand the full process, have the correct tools, and can plan for the help you will need.
Starting on the driver side, use a 16mm socket to remove the M10 bolts holding the corners of the factory bumper support bracket to the frame. Repeat this step for the passenger side.
After removing the factory bumper support bracket bolts (Step 1), remove the center bumper bolts holding the Z-shaped brackets to the frame on both sides (Step 2). Then, using an 18mm socket, remove the bolts holding the stock tow hooks to the frame—these will not be reinstalled. Finally, with help, lift the bumper off the frame rails and set it aside (Step 3).
Lay the bumper on a flat work surface. At each attachment point, fasten the side extensions with an M10 hex bolt, lock washer, two M10 x 20mm flat washers, and a nut. If installing without LEDs, do this for all four mounting locations on each side. If installing with LEDs, do this for all three mounting locations on each side. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at this stage.
The C-channel brackets are part of the center section assembly and are placed into the frame of the vehicle. If necessary, use a screwdriver to move the C-channel into place. Install one on the driver side and one on the passenger side before lifting the new bumper center section into position.
With help, lift the new bumper center section over the frame rails. Secure it using M12 hex bolts, lock washers, and flat washers. Snug with an 18mm socket but do not fully tighten at this stage. Repeat for the passenger side.
Secure the corner bumper bracket to the vehicle with M10 hex bolts, lock washers, and M10 x 27mm flat washers. Secure the corner bumper bracket to the bumper with M10 button head bolts, lock washers, M10 x 20mm and M10 x 27mm flat washers, and a nut. Repeat for the passenger side. Snug but do not fully tighten until after leveling the bumper.
After all components are in place, check to make sure the bumper is level using a level tool. Adjust if necessary, then fully tighten all of the hardware. This is done in Step 9, after the side extensions and corner brackets are installed but before any LED light installation.
M10 bolts should be torqued to 33 ft-lbs. This applies to all M10 hex bolts, button head bolts, and other M10 fasteners used in the installation unless otherwise noted in the manual.
M12 bolts should be torqued to 58 ft-lbs. This applies to the M12 hex bolts used to secure the bumper center section to the frame.
LED lights are included with kit numbers 2082061 (aluminum) and 2082060 (steel). They are not included with kit numbers 2082036 (aluminum) and 2082038 (steel). If you purchase a kit without LEDs, you can order LED work lights separately (part #1501252).
Mount the LED lights in the recessed pockets on the bumper corners using the provided hardware. Adjust the light to the desired angle and fully tighten all hardware. Then connect the harness extension to each light by inserting the male plug on the harness extension into the female socket on each LED light. Route the harness extension to the front of the vehicle and connect to the main wiring harness.
Connect the red fused wire with the ring terminal to the positive (+) battery post. Connect the black wire ring terminal to the negative (-) battery post or other suitable vehicle grounding point. Reconnect the blue, red, and black spade connectors to the switch as shown in the Wiring Harness diagram. Mount the provided relay to the vehicle and secure all wires with zip ties away from moving parts to avoid damage.
If the LED lights are being used with a 24V system, the relay will need to be replaced with a 24V unit. The kit includes a 12V relay by default.
Disconnect the supplied switch from the wiring harness and install it in the desired location. The manual does not specify a particular location, so you can choose a convenient spot in your vehicle's interior.
The manual states: 'Improper electrical installation may result in personal injury. Unless you are familiar with the installation and handling of electrical systems, have this step performed by someone who has that familiarity.' If you are not experienced with vehicle electrical systems, hire a qualified technician to perform the LED light and wiring installation.
Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or other similar products that may damage the finish. To protect the product, wax after installing. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives that could damage the finish. For polished, gloss, and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. With the bumper installed, periodic inspections should also be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. Test the LED lights (if installed) to ensure proper function.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility. Contact ARIES at 877.287.8634 or check ariesautomotive.com to confirm fitment before purchasing.
Torque wrench, socket set (16mm, 18mm), level, and Allen wrench set. You will also need at least one additional person to help lift the bumper center section.
LED lights are included with kit numbers 2082061 (aluminum) and 2082060 (steel). They are not included with 2082036 (aluminum) or 2082038 (steel). If your kit doesn't include lights, you can order part #1501252 separately.
M10 bolts: 33 ft-lbs. M12 bolts: 58 ft-lbs. Use these settings unless the manual notes otherwise.
If you are not familiar with vehicle electrical systems, yes. The manual states that improper electrical installation may result in personal injury and recommends having the work performed by someone with electrical system experience.
Wax after installation and regularly thereafter. Use only mild automotive detergent for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners, wire brushes, dish detergent, or abrasive waxes. Polish may be used on smooth finishes to clear small scratches.
First, test the lights to ensure proper function as instructed in Step 11. Check that the red fused wire is securely connected to the positive (+) battery post and the black wire is securely connected to the negative (-) battery post or suitable grounding point. Verify that the blue, red, and black spade connectors are properly reconnected to the switch. Ensure the male plugs on the harness extensions are fully inserted into the female sockets on the LED lights. If the vehicle uses a 24V system, confirm that a 24V relay (not the supplied 12V relay) is installed.
Before fully tightening all hardware, use a level to check the bumper alignment (Step 9). If the bumper is not level, adjust the position by loosening the hardware slightly and repositioning the bumper and brackets as needed. Once level, fully tighten all hardware to the specified torque values.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. If any bolts are loose, retighten them to the specified torque values: M10 bolts to 33 ft-lbs and M12 bolts to 58 ft-lbs. Also perform periodic inspection of all wires and connections to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
