Each piece can be attached or swapped out as desired, giving you complete freedom of customization. This particular piece includes the rear center section only and is intended to accept corners (sold separately). It is constructed from T6 aluminum alloy to be strong, lightweight and rust-free, and has a unique, textured black powde r coat finish for maximum corrosion resistance. Yes. Drilling is required only for the license plate bracket installation. In Step 14, after positioning the license plate bracket on the bumper, you must drill one additional 1/4" hole to accommodate a second M6 screw. A .25" drill bit is provided in the required tools list.
M14 bolts should be torqued to 93 ft-lbs. This applies to the bolts securing the bumper to the Jeep frame on the passenger side and the bottom of the vehicle.
M12 bolts should be torqued to 58 ft-lbs. This applies to bolts on the side of the driver and passenger side of the vehicle.
M10 bolts should be torqued to 33 ft-lbs. This applies to bolts securing the side extensions to the bumper and other M10 fasteners throughout the installation.
Electrical installation is required only if you are installing LED lights (included with kit numbers 2082083 and 2082081). The license plate light uses factory wiring and does not require new electrical work. If you are not experienced with electrical systems, the manual cautions that improper electrical installation may result in personal injury and recommends having this step performed by someone familiar with electrical systems.
LED light installation requires: (1) connecting the harness extension male plug to the female socket on each LED light; (2) routing the harness extension to the front of the vehicle and connecting to the main wiring harness; (3) reconnecting the blue, red, and black spade connectors to the switch; (4) connecting the red fused wire with ring terminal to the positive (+) battery post; (5) connecting the black wire ring terminal to the negative (-) battery post or suitable vehicle grounding point; (6) mounting the relay to the vehicle and securing all wires with zip ties away from moving parts.
If your vehicle uses a 24V system, the relay must be replaced with a 24V unit. The kit includes a 12V relay by default. This must be done before connecting the LED lights to the battery.
In Step 15, route the factory wiring harness for the license plate light through the large hole on the driver side of the bumper. Verify all connections are tight and free of corrosion.
In Step 18, reconnect the wiring harness and test the function of the license plate light. Check that: (1) the factory wiring harness is properly routed through the large hole on the driver side of the bumper (Step 15); (2) the wiring harness is properly connected to the license plate light; (3) the license plate light is properly seated in the license plate bracket cover; (4) the factory fasteners securing the license plate light to the bracket cover are tight; (5) the wiring harness connector was properly separated and reconnected (a small screwdriver may be needed to separate the connector). Verify the factory wiring harness shows no visible damage.
In Step 7, the manual instructs to 'Adjust alignment as necessary and tighten fasteners on both sides' when attaching the side extensions. Before fully tightening all fasteners in Step 13, verify that all fasteners are snug but not fully tightened (Steps 10, 11, 12). Check that the C-channel bracket nuts are properly aligned with the holes in the bottom of the Jeep frame (Step 8). Loosen the fasteners slightly, adjust the bumper position, and re-tighten to the correct torque specifications (M10: 33 ft-lbs, M12: 58 ft-lbs, M14: 93 ft-lbs).
