ARIES 3" side bars add a custom look and dependable footing to your truck, Jeep or SUV. They feature a classic style, a strong design and non-skid step pads. ARIES nerf bars are all made vehicle-specific for a custom, no-drill fit, and they are available in multiple finish options. This set of nerf bars is constructed from 304 stainless steel with a polished finish. Our 304 stainless steel is a true stainless with high nickel content, offering better corrosion resistance and a long-lasting finish. The polish is a triple application, resulting in a mirror-like shine to complement your vehicle. ARIES 3" round side bars also come with high-strength steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets -- as well as the side bars and step pads -- are custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the nerf bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. This ensures easy, no-drill installation and the strength necessary to provide solid footing. This particular set of custom nerf bars fits specific years of the Chevy Avalanche, Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon XL (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of polypropylene. These wide, custom-positioned step pads feature a textured pattern and cover a wide portion of the tubes to be more comfortable and high-traction, even in wet conditions.

The ARIES 3" Round Polished Stainless Side Bars, Select Avalanche, Suburban, Yukon XL Step Nerf Bar Kit (Part #BBDR204004-2) fits 2007-2013 Chevrolet Avalanche models. The 2020 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The ARIES 3" Round Polished Stainless Side Bars, Select Avalanche, Suburban, Yukon XL Step Nerf Bar Kit (Part #BBDR204004-2) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The ARIES 204004-2 3" round side bars are designed for General Motors trucks, including Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Light Duty and Heavy Duty models. The manual specifically addresses 2000–2006 models and 2007+ models, with a special installation alert for late 2010 and 2012 models due to changes in GM's body mount bolt design.
The kit includes: 1 driver-side bar, 1 passenger-side bar, 2 front mounting brackets, 2 middle mounting brackets, 2 rear mounting brackets, 2 hex bolts 10mm × 30mm, 2 flat washers 10mm × 25mm × 2mm, 2 lock washers 10mm, 6 hex bolts 12mm × 120mm (for 2000–2006 models only), 4 hex bolts 12mm × 50mm, 10 flat washers 12mm × 35mm × 3mm, and 10 lock washers 12mm.
No. All required hardware is included in the kit. However, 2007+ models will reuse the factory body mount bolts instead of the included 12mm × 120mm bolts. The manual does not specify what additional tools are required beyond standard hand tools.
The manual does not mention battery disconnection. Since this is a mechanical side bar installation with no electrical components, battery disconnection is not required.
No. The installation uses existing factory body mount bolt holes. No drilling, cutting, grinding, welding or permanent modifications are required.
No. Step 2 of the installation procedure requires you to loosen and remove the factory body mount bolts that run upward through the mounts into the floorboard. These bolts are then reused to attach the mounting brackets.
1. Start with the driver-side. 2. Loosen and remove the factory body mount bolts. 3. Attach the front mounting bracket to the vehicle's front body mount. 4. Repeat for the middle and rear mounting brackets. 5. Attach the side bar to the front and rear brackets, then fasten the middle bracket to the side bar. 6. Adjust the side bar to be level and centered, then tighten all bolts. 7. Repeat the entire process for the passenger-side.
Snug the hardware first but do not fully tighten. After attaching the side bar to all brackets and adjusting it to be level and centered, then tighten all bolts to complete the assembly.
After attaching the side bar to the front and rear brackets and fastening the middle bracket, adjust the side bar so that it is level and centered before tightening all bolts to complete the assembly.
Use one M12 × 50mm hex bolt, one 12mm lock washer, and one 12mm flat washer for each bracket (front and rear). Hand tighten initially, then fully tighten after the side bar is leveled and centered.
Use one 10mm × 30mm hex bolt, one 10mm flat washer, and one 10mm lock washer to fasten the middle mounting bracket to the side bar.
Use the M12 × 120mm hex bolts included in the kit. Each bracket attachment requires one M12 × 120mm bolt, one 12mm lock washer, and one 12mm flat washer.
Use the factory body mount bolts already on the vehicle. The manual states: 'for 2007 models, use the factory bolt on the vehicle.' Reuse these bolts with the included 12mm lock washer and 12mm flat washer.
Use extreme care when removing the factory body mount bolts. Loosen and re-tighten all body mount bolts by hand only—do not use impact tools of any kind. GM uses Heavy Duty Loctite on these bolts and a cage nut design that can be damaged by impact tools. If bolts become increasingly tight as you loosen them, retighten and loosen the bolt several times to clear the Loctite from the threads. Failure to follow this instruction could cause the bolts to seize and the cage nut tabs to bend, allowing the nut to spin freely.
The manual does not provide a final torque specification. It instructs you to snug the hardware initially and then tighten all bolts after the side bar is leveled and centered, but does not specify the final torque value.
Wax the product after installing to protect it. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. For stainless steel and aluminum, mild polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Mild soap may be used to clean the product. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
The manual recommends periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight but does not specify an inspection interval.
Yes. The manual rates the installation difficulty as 'Easy.'
The ARIES 204004-2 is designed for General Motors trucks including Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Light Duty and Heavy Duty models. Confirm your specific year and model match the manual's coverage (2000–2006, 2007+, with special notes for 2010 and 2012 models).
No. The installation uses existing factory body mount bolt holes. No drilling or permanent modifications are required.
The manual specifies that proper hand tools will improve installation quality and reduce time, but does not list specific tools required. For 2010+ GM trucks, use hand tools only—do not use impact tools on body mount bolts.
Yes. You must loosen and remove the factory body mount bolts, then reuse them to attach the mounting brackets. On 2010+ GM trucks, use hand tools only and apply extreme care to avoid damaging the cage nut.
Wax the bars after installation and regularly thereafter. Do not use abrasive polish or wax. For stainless steel and aluminum, mild polish and mild soap are acceptable. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
Use hand tools only—never use impact tools on body mount bolts. GM uses Loctite and a cage nut design that can seize or bend if impact tools are used. If bolts become tight while loosening, retighten and loosen several times to clear the Loctite.
The installation is rated as 'Easy.'
