ARIES ActionTrac powered running boards are unique from other power side steps because they are actually two steps in one. This patented step-within-a-step technology -- combined with a no-drill bracket installation, control module operation and powder-coated aluminum construction -- truly makes these retractable running boards an asset for the offroad truck or Jeep, particularly as lifted truck steps. ActionTrac motorized running boards have one 4" wide step on top of the main housing and one 3" wide that automatically deploys as needed. When the door opens, the control module deploys the power step 8" below the main step, 15" below the doorsill, depending on the model. This two-step design offers enhanced safety and easier vehicle entry and exit, especially on large, lifted vehicles. It's also very helpful for families with young children and for elderly passengers. The boards contour to the vehicle and offer extra protection for the rocker panels from small road debris. For additional safety, the module is able to detect any obstructions during operation to avoid pinch hazards. LED lights are also built into the housing to illuminate the steps when deployed. ARIES ActionTrac automatic running boards are made for vehicle-specific installation for a custom fit. They use pre-existing factory holes for the brackets to eliminate drilling. They also do not require any splicing into original factory wiring. These particular automotive running boards fit specific years of the Ford F150, F250 Super Duty, F350 Super Duty and F450 Super Duty (see application info to verify fitment). Each set is constructed from powder-coated aluminum to be strong, lightweight and non-corr osive. The quiet, maintenance-free rotary motor is shielded within the main housing, along with the powerboard pivot points and all electrical components, protecting them from the harsh elements. NOTE: Boards, brackets and wiring are included.

The kit includes one driver-side running board, one passenger-side running board, six mounting brackets, six T-rails, 30 M8 flat washers, 18 M8 nylock nuts, 18 nylon 3/8" flat washers, 12 5/16" nylock nuts, two rubber grommets, four door sensors, two door sensor extensions, four magnets, two alcohol wipes, one power switch, one circuit board, one anti-seize compound, one wire loom, one two-piece wiring harness, two LED lights, two LED light brackets, and double-sided foam tape (eight pieces of 3/4" x 3/4" and four pieces of 1/2" x 1/2"). Note: Running boards are sold separately.
You will need a ratchet, drill, socket set, drill bit set, zip ties, and a level. A 3/4" drill bit is required for the power switch hole, and a 1" drill bit is required for the floor hole (if no factory plug exists).
The manual states: 'Improper electrical installation may result in personal injury. Unless you are familiar with the installation and handling of electrical systems, have this step performed by someone who has that familiarity.' Professional installation is recommended for the electrical components if you are not experienced with electrical systems.
No maintenance is required on the waterproof harness or water-resistant motors. If mud or dirt builds up on the steps, spray them off and let them air dry. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product—do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. After installation, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility by make, model, or year. The product is described as universal and uses adjustable mounting brackets. Contact CURT at 844-278-4357 or consult a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle.
No. The running boards are sold separately. The kit includes the mounting brackets, T-rails, fasteners, wiring harness, sensors, LED lights, power switch, and circuit board, but not the actual running boards themselves.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Contact CURT at 844-278-4357 for guidance on this step.
Yes. You must remove the front and rear door trim panels on both sides of the vehicle to route the wiring harness and install the door sensors. You may also need to remove other vehicle components that could interfere with the wiring harness.
Three mounting brackets are required per side: one at the front, one in the middle, and one at the rear. Each bracket is secured to three threaded studs on the inside of the body panel using M8 flat washers and nylock nuts.
First, snug all mounting brackets to the vehicle but do not fully tighten them. After the running board is positioned as desired, tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the running board connections. This allows for proper alignment before final tightening.
Three T-rails are installed per running board. Each T-rail is inserted into the slot on the running board and positioned as close to the mounting bracket location as possible. Each T-rail stud is secured with one M8 flat washer and one 5/16" nylock nut.
The circuit board is placed underneath the carpet under the rear passenger seat. Both wiring harnesses are attached to the circuit board, and the fuse is re-installed after all wiring is complete.
The first section of the wiring harness is routed from the battery through the firewall into the cab of the vehicle and zip-tied in place. The second section is routed under the carpet from the passenger-side rear to the desired location. The fuse must be removed before installation and re-installed after all wiring is complete.
Yes. A 3/4" hole must be drilled for the power switch installation. Additionally, if there is no factory plug in the floor behind the driver or passenger seat, a 1" hole must be drilled through the floor to route the rear actuator and LED light wires. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires or obstructions in the drilling location.
If there is no factory plug, you must drill a 1" hole through the floor of the vehicle close to the rear bracket. Before drilling, confirm there are no obstructions in the drilling location. Route the driver-side rear actuator (red/black) and LED light (brown/tan) down through the floor and secure in place with the provided rubber grommet.
If a factory floor plug exists behind the driver seat, you route the rear actuator and LED light wires through it. After the wires are inserted, you must cut a slot in the floor plug and re-insert it into the hole.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the mounting brackets and T-rail connections.
5/16" bolts should be torqued to 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the T-rail studs that secure the running board to the mounting brackets.
The driver-side front door sensor uses yellow/orange wires, and the driver-side rear door sensor uses purple/orange wires.
The passenger-side front door sensor uses grey/green wires, and the passenger-side rear door sensor uses white/blue wires.
The driver-side LED light uses brown/dark brown wires. The passenger-side LED light uses pink/brown wires.
Both driver-side and passenger-side actuators use black/red wires.
The system uses a 20A fuse. The fuse must be removed before installation and re-installed after all wiring is complete.
The blue female wires must be plugged into the silver male ends, and the red female wire must be plugged into the bronze male end. The power switch is installed by drilling a 3/4" hole in the panel and wiring it into place. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires behind the panel.
Depending on your vehicle, you may need to use the supplied sensor harness extensions for the two front door sensors. The kit includes two door sensor extensions.
After plugging the door sensor into the wiring harness and routing it up the door frame under the carpet, wipe both the sensor and door with the provided alcohol wipe. Place two pieces of 1/2" x 1/2" double-sided tape on the sensor and attach it to the vehicle. Repeat this process for all four doors.
Using the 3/4" x 3/4" double-sided tape, place the magnet on the door so it lines up with the sensor. Repeat this for all four doors.
The LED light wire (brown/tan for driver side, pink/tan for passenger side) is plugged into the LED light and secured to the mounting bracket tab with the supplied jam nut. The LED light bracket is placed over one of the T-rail studs at the rear mounting bracket before securing the T-rail studs.
Use of the switch requires manual operation of the boards. Failure to retract the boards when operating the vehicle could result in damage to the boards or vehicle.
The LED light will not kill your battery unless you leave it lit for a month with no vehicle use. The light is only supposed to be on when the system is turned on.
After installation, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. Additionally, periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
Check the following in order: (1) Double-check all connections. (2) Check the fuse to make sure it is plugged in. (3) Verify the on/off switch is getting power. (4) Confirm the circuit board is plugged in. (5) Verify the door sensors are plugged in. If all connections are secure and the fuse is installed, the issue may be with the motor or sensors.
The light is only supposed to be on when the system is turned on. If it is lit in both positions, simply switch the red wires on the back of the switch.
Two things may be causing this issue: (1) Check the motor by unplugging it from the wiring harness and applying external 12V power to the leads. One position will make them deploy; switch the leads to make them retract. If this works, plug the motor back in. If you only hear a clicking sound, there is likely internal damage. (2) Check the sensors by unplugging both from the wiring harness and plugging one back in. Manually test by putting a magnet close (but not touching) to the sensor. It should make the step retract. When the magnet is away, the step should deploy. If magnets need alignment, do this one by one: install one sensor, test, align the magnet on the door, test, and mark the position.
The system has built-in protection against quick cycling to prevent damage. Turn your on/off switch to off, wait 5 seconds, and then turn it on again. This will reset the system and allow it to work normally.
Apply a dry, graphite powder lubricant on each pivot point to eliminate squeaking and rubbing sounds.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility. Contact CURT at 844-278-4357 or consult a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle make, model, and year.

M8 bolts and 5/16" bolts: 7 ft-lbs. M10 bolts and 3/8" bolts: 16 ft-lbs. 1/2" bolts: 28 ft-lbs.
A 20A fuse is used. The fuse must be removed before installation and re-installed after all wiring is complete.
Professional electrical installation is recommended unless you are familiar with electrical systems. Improper electrical installation may result in personal injury.
No maintenance is required on the waterproof harness or motors. Periodically inspect all mounting hardware and wiring connections for tightness and damage. Clean with mild automotive detergent only; avoid abrasive cleaners.
Check the following in order: (1) All connections are secure. (2) The 20A fuse is plugged in. (3) The on/off switch is receiving power. (4) The circuit board is plugged in. (5) The door sensors are plugged in. If all are secure, the motor or sensors may be faulty.
The light should only be on when the system is turned on. If it is lit in both positions, switch the red wires on the back of the power switch.
Two possible causes: (1) Motor failure: Unplug the motor from the wiring harness and apply external 12V power to the leads. One position deploys, the other retracts. If you only hear clicking, there is internal damage. (2) Sensor misalignment: Unplug both sensors, plug one back in, and test with a magnet close to the sensor. It should retract the step. When the magnet is away, the step should deploy. Align magnets one by one and mark their positions.
The circuit board may be faulty. Call CURT product support at 844-278-4357.
