It begins with a one-piece frame of 1/4" thick welded plates and 1-1/2" mandrel-bent tubing for a solid build. Each one is made with a vehicle-specific design for a better fit, easier install and more secure mounting. The side brush guards are custom-bent to contour to the profile of your vehicle, while the mounting brackets are positioned for a no-drill application. This means pre-existing factory holes are used to ensure optimum fitment and less vibration. This particular custom grille guard fits specific years of the Ram 1500 (see application info to verify). The ARIES grille guard also makes it easy to customize the look of your vehicle. Not only does the crossbar have two pre-drilled holes for mounting aftermarket LED lights, but many of our grille guards are also available in two finish options -- polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black steel. The stainless steel grille guard is made with 304 stainless, being high in nickel content and truly resistant to rust and corrosion. This option comes with a mirror-like polished finish for a definitive shine. The semi-gloss black grille guard is made with high-strength carbon steel for added strength. It features a tough, dual-layer E-coat and black powder coat finish to protect against rust, scratches and the elements. All ARIES grille guards also come with rubber stripping along the risers to protect the frame against scuffs and scratches.

The manual rates the installation difficulty as 'Easy'. However, the installation requires assistance from another person, careful manipulation of brackets through tight spaces, and precise torque application. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning.
The manual states 'To make installation easier, temporarily remove the active air dam system' if your vehicle is equipped with one. Removal involves unplugging the air dam, releasing the harness from two plastic clips, and removing two factory flange nuts per side. The air dam is reinstalled after the grille guard installation is complete.
Cover the top of the bumper and bottom of the grille with removable tape (such as masking tape) to prevent the brackets from damaging the vehicle's finish during installation. Apply adhesive foam tape around each rear support bracket to protect the bumper finish.
Installation sequence: 1) Remove active air dam if equipped. 2) Remove center plastic cover. 3) Loosen (do not remove) bumper. 4) Install passenger/right rear support bracket. 5) Install driver/left rear support bracket. 6) Install passenger/right front support bracket. 7) Install driver/left front support bracket. 8) Remove or loosen tow hooks. 9) Install passenger/right lower frame bracket. 10) Install driver/left lower frame bracket. 11) Attach grille guard to all brackets. 12) Level and tighten all hardware. 13) Reinstall center plastic cover and active air dam.
Apply adhesive foam tape to the bracket. Starting under the center of the front bumper, insert the rear end of the bracket between the lower air dam and bumper reinforcement brace. Push the rear end over the upper bumper reinforcement brace. Pull the bracket toward the rear of the vehicle. With the bumper loosened, push down on the plastic trim and carefully slide the front of the bracket through the opening. Slide the bracket toward the appropriate side of the frame. Place a 12mm x 29mm x 5mm spacer washer over the frame stud. Align the bracket's open-ended slot to the frame stud and use the factory flange nut to attach it. Leave hardware loose at this time. Repeat for the opposite side.
Select the appropriate front support bracket (passenger/right or driver/left). Attach it to the top of the corresponding rear support bracket using 2 M8 hex bolts, 4 M8 flat washers, 2 M8 lock washers, and 2 M8 hex nuts. Do not tighten hardware at this time. Repeat for the opposite side.
For vehicles with tow hooks: Remove both tow hooks (the rear factory bolt cannot be removed, only loosened). For vehicles without tow hooks: Loosen the factory bolts on the bottom of the frame. Remove plastic covers blocking openings in the bumper. Select the appropriate lower frame bracket. Slide the open-ended slot on the bracket over the loosened factory bolt. Either reuse the factory tow hook bolt or use a new M14 hex bolt, M14 lock washer, and M14 flat washer to attach the frame bracket to the threaded hole in the frame. Snug but do not fully tighten hardware. Repeat for the opposite side.
With assistance, hold the grille guard up to the outsides of the frame and support brackets. Attach the grille guard uprights to the lower brackets using 4 M12 hex bolts, 8 M12 flat washers, 4 M12 lock washers, and 4 M12 hex nuts. Attach the support brackets to the grille guard uprights using 2 M8 hex bolts, 4 M8 flat washers, 2 M8 lock washers, and 2 M8 hex nuts per side. Level and adjust the grille guard, then tighten all hardware to the specified torque values.
Leave hardware loose during the initial bracket installation steps. After all brackets are positioned and the grille guard is held in place and leveled, tighten all hardware. The manual specifies torque values: M8 bolts to 23 ft-lbs, M12 bolts to 77 ft-lbs, and M14 bolts to 125 ft-lbs.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 23 ft-lbs.
M12 bolts should be torqued to 77 ft-lbs.
M14 bolts should be torqued to 125 ft-lbs.
The spacer washers are 12mm x 29mm x 5mm. Two are included in the kit.
For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. However, do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these will damage the finish.
