Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.

For Raptor models: (1) Remove seventeen push pins from bumper cover, pull around tow hooks to unsnap and remove cover; (3) As bumper is removed, unplug one electrical connection on driver side; then follow steps 2, 4, and 5 above.
For Standard Bumper models: (1) Unsnap D-ring cover, unplug sensor from back of cover, remove and set aside on both sides; (2) Using 15MM socket, remove three bolts from D-ring on both sides, remove D-rings with bumper, disconnect wire loom from driver side; (3) Using 8MM socket, remove one bolt from D-ring bracket on both sides; (4) Using 13MM socket, remove four bolts holding D-ring bracket to bumper on both sides; (5) Using 1/2-inch drill bit, drill out hole on outside of frame on both sides.

For baseplates made prior to 4/14/23, there is a notch in the baseplate tube that denotes which side each piece corresponds with: driver side has a notch at the top, passenger side has a notch at the bottom.
The manual provides a general torque chart for metric and inch bolts but does not specify the grade of the 1/2-inch bolts used in the baseplate installation. For 1/2-inch Grade 5 bolts, the torque is 78 foot-pounds; for Grade 8, it is 119 foot-pounds. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening. On Raptor models, as the bumper is removed, you must unplug one electrical connection on the driver side of the vehicle. Additionally, for Standard Bumper models, you must unplug the sensor from the back of the D-ring cover on both sides before removing the cover.
Hold the electrical bracket plate up to the bumper on the driver side of the baseplate and mark the spot. Using a 1/4-inch drill bit, drill a hole in the bumper. Attach the bracket to the bumper using one 1/4-inch x 1-inch bolt with flat washer and nylon lock nut. Use Loctite Red on the bolt thread and tighten to the appropriate torque (10 foot-pounds for Grade 5).
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The manual shows two recommended installation options. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle. These cables are strongly recommended and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. They are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. Ensure you are using the correct drill bit size (1/4-inch or 1/2-inch as specified in the instructions) and be mindful of the depth to avoid drilling through critical components.

Slide the bumper onto the vehicle and reattach the electrical connection on the driver side (for Raptor and Standard Bumper models). Then install the three existing bolts on both sides of the vehicle.
After attaching the permanent baseplate safety cables and before reinstalling the fascia, reinstall the belly pan using the four bolts that were removed during the initial disassembly.
Yes, the breakaway switch installation is optional. If you choose to install it, attach the switch to the breakaway bracket using one 1/4-inch x 1-inch bolt with flat washer and nut. Then attach the breakaway bracket with switch to the bumper on the driver side of the vehicle using the existing bolt and hardware.
If a bolt is lost or in need of replacement, for your safety and the preservation of the baseplate, be sure to use a replacement bolt of the same grade. In most cases it will be Grade 5. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox dealer or distributor.
Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Coverage is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any warranty claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint or rust. The warranty is non-transferable.
