The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX88266 is a Class IV Bolt On Universal Adapter designed to mount to vehicle bumpers to enable towing with tow bars and A-frame tow bars. It consists of two adapter plates with multiple mounting holes that bolt to the bumper.
The BX88266 is a universal adapter, but not all bumpers are suitable for towing without modification and reinforcement. The bumper must be metal, flat, and capable of supporting towing loads. Most vehicle bumpers are not suitable for towing without modification. If you are unsure whether your bumper is suitable, consult a skilled hitch mechanic before installation.
No. The mounting brackets must be attached metal to metal and to a flat surface. These brackets should never be attached over rubber or plastic. If your bumper has rubber or plastic components, they must be removed or the bumper must be reinforced to provide a suitable metal mounting surface.

The manual does not specify which tools are required for installation. You will need a drill with a 17/32" drill bit to create the mounting holes in the bumper. Consult the General Instruction Sheet included with the package for a complete tool list and any additional requirements.

The manual specifies a two-step drilling process: first, drill holes at marked points using the inside holes of the adapter plate as a template; then, drill additional 17/32" holes for the outer bracket holes using the bracket itself as a template.
Locate the center of your bumper and measure out 10-9/16" to either side. From the center of that mark, measure over 21-1/8" to the opposite side. Using the inside holes of the adapter plate as a template, drill 17/32" holes at the marked points. Then drill additional 17/32" holes for the outer bracket holes using the bracket as a template.
A 17/32" drill bit is required to drill all mounting holes in the bumper for the BX88266 adapter.
If the bumper has a tube behind it, you must drill through both the bumper and the tube, and use the longer bolts provided. The longer bolts are the 1/2"-13 x 5-1/2" hex bolts (part number 201-0377). The shorter bolts (1/2"-13 x 2-1/2", part number 201-0153) are used when there is no tube behind the bumper.
The manual states that all bolts must be torqued according to the torque chart in the General Instruction Sheet, which is not included in this document. You must consult the separate General Instruction Sheet to find the correct torque values for the 1/2"-13 hex bolts.

Locate the bumper center and measure 10-9/16" to either side; measure 21-1/8" across. 4. Drill 17/32" holes at marked points using the inside holes of the adapter plate as a template. 5. Finish installing the brackets with Loctite on all bolts and proper torque. 8. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to their instructions.

Before final tightening of the bolts, check that the A-frame tow bar moves freely up and down. This ensures proper operation and prevents binding or damage to the tow bar.
Do not substitute other devices if the pin and clip are lost. You must obtain replacement parts. The kit includes 4 clevis pins (part number 229-0843) and 4 hairpin cotter pins (part number 229-0844). Contact Blue Ox or an authorized dealer to order replacement pins if needed.
Metal-to-metal mounting on a flat surface is required because most vehicle bumpers are not suitable for towing without modification and reinforcement.
