Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

No. The manual explicitly states 'No holes to drill.' The baseplate uses existing factory attachment points and metric bolts.
No. The manual states 'Tie down brackets will not be reinstalled' and 'Factory tie down brackets will NOT be reinstalled.' These are removed during installation and discarded.
Required tools are: 8MM socket, 10MM socket, 13MM socket, Phillips screwdriver, hacksaw, vise grips, and hammer. Loctite is also required for all bolts.
The kit includes: one weldment base plate (61-5833), two #10-16 x 1 self-drilling screws (201-0654), two #10 flat washers (203-0053), two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), two 4-way connector adapters (101-5822), two #10-32 x ½ slot round-head screws (201-0192), two #10 lock washers (203-0054), two #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), and six existing metric bolts are reused from the vehicle.
Follow these steps in order: (1) Remove six push pins and six Phillips-head screws from black plastic on top of fascia. (2) Using 10MM socket, remove two metric bolts from headlight assembly, pull forward, unplug electrical, and set aside (both sides). (3) Just under headlight assembly, remove one push pin on fascia (both sides) and one metric bolt behind assembly with 10MM socket (both sides). (4) Remove two metric bolts from top side of fascia with 10MM socket. (5) Using 8MM socket, remove one metric bolt from upper fascia corner just forward of front tires (both sides). (6) Using Phillips screwdriver, remove two screws from upper fascia opening behind license plate. (7) Just forward of front tires on bottom of fascia, remove two Phillips screws (both sides). (8) Pull fascia forward and set aside.
Cut the webbing with a hacksaw and bend it forward using vise grips. It may be necessary to tap the frame with a hammer to flatten it. This is a permanent modification.
Align the baseplate with the tie-down bracket holes and tighten the existing metric bolts using a 13MM socket. Install metric bolts for the windshield washer reservoir and air baffle. The brass-colored metric bolt goes to the passenger's side. Use Loctite on all bolts before tightening. Tighten according to the torque chart in the General Instructions Sheet (not included in this manual).
The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. If necessary, file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear. Do not force bolts or modify the baseplate excessively.
Reinstall the fascia and headlight assemblies. Be sure to install items 2 and 3 according to the drawing on the last page of the manual. (Note: the referenced drawing is not visible in the provided manual pages; consult the complete manual or contact your dealer for the specific diagram.)
The manual states 'Tighten according to torque chart in the General Instructions Sheet' but does not provide the specific torque values in this document. Consult the separate General Instructions Sheet or contact your Blue Ox dealer for the correct torque specifications.
The attachment tabs are 24 inches center to center with a height of 13½ inches.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system. Do not mount cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables must be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.
The installer must watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation. Do not mount permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
