Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX1813 baseplate is designed for 1987–1990 Nissan Sentra vehicles. It mounts to the front underside of the car using nine existing bolts: four on each side and one in the center.
The manual specifies the BX1813 is for 1987–1990 Nissan Sentra only. Fitment on other Nissan models or years is not addressed in the manual and should be confirmed with the manufacturer before purchase.
You must remove the tie down brackets (stamped metal plates with an oblong hole facing downward) and the vertical bolts that hold the bumper bracket to the frame on each side. Additionally, remove the front bolt from the driver's side only that holds the center cross-brace to the frame. Inspect all removed bolts for reuse.
Only if the baseplate's center bracket rests against the plastic belly pan. Before mounting, hold the baseplate in position and check for contact. If contact occurs, the belly pan must be cut away in that area before final installation.
The following tools are required: 14mm socket, 17mm socket, 9/16" socket, socket extension, and 9/16" open end wrench.
The kit includes four 3/8-16 x 1" hex head bolts (Grade 5), four 3/8-16 hex nuts, and four 3/8" lock washers. These are used to assemble the upright brackets to the baseplate.
Position the upright brackets with the open side of the angles facing forward. The driver-side upright bracket (part 61-3505) goes on the driver side, and the passenger-side upright bracket (part 61-3506) goes on the passenger side.
With the baseplate positioned so its holes align with the tie down bolt holes and the cross-brace bolt hole, hand-start the previously removed bolts into the tie down and cross-brace holes. Apply locktite to these bolts but do not tighten them yet. This allows for adjustment before final tightening.
Insert a previously removed bumper bracket bolt through the top upright bracket hole and hold it with a socket on an extension. Start the bumper bracket bolts. Then loosely assemble the upright brackets to the baseplate using the supplied 3/8" bolts, nuts, and lock washers. Do not tighten until all bolts align.
Dimensional variations between cars can be considerable. If a bolt does not align, it may be necessary to file the hole slightly to allow the bolt to clear. Do this before final tightening.
Tighten all bolts securely only after all bolts align and the baseplate is properly positioned. Do not tighten the tie down and cross-brace bolts until the upright brackets are loosely assembled and all holes are aligned.
The kit includes the baseplate (61-3514), driver-side upright bracket (61-3505), passenger-side upright bracket (61-3506), four 3/8-16 x 1" Grade 5 hex head bolts, four 3/8-16 hex nuts, and four 3/8" lock washers. A General Instruction Sheet is also included and must be provided to the end user.
Do not substitute other devices if the pin and clip are lost. Obtain replacement pins and clips from the manufacturer to ensure safe operation.
Yes. The manual instructs you to remove and inspect the tie down bracket bolts, bumper bracket bolts, and the center cross-brace bolt for reuse. These bolts are then hand-started back into their original holes with locktite applied.
The BX1813 baseplate fits 1987–1990 Nissan Sentra models only.
Cutting of the plastic belly pan is required only if the baseplate's center bracket rests against it. Check fit before final installation.
