Introducing the Blue Ox BX1828 Tow Bar Bracket, a durable and reliable solution for all your towing needs. This specifically designed base plate is crafted from robust steel and coated with a black powder finish, ensuring high resistance to wear and tear. It offers a straightforward bolt-on mounting type and includes all the necessary hardware for a hassle-free, do-it-yourself installation. This product's durability, ease of installation, and custom design for specific towed vehicles make it a market leader in quality and convenience.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Four existing 14MM bolts from the vehicle are also used.
Required tools are: 12MM wrench, 9/16-inch wrench, 14MM wrench, 3/4-inch wrench, screwdriver, utility knife, C clamp, and Loctite Blue threadlocker.
Yes. The front bumper facia and metal bumper must be removed for baseplate installation. The process involves removing the grill, bumper facia screws, wheel well molding, fender nuts, and disconnecting the facia wiring before the baseplate can be bolted to the frame.
Yes. Holes must be drilled for the bottom of the metal bumper using the baseplate as a template (step 9), and two 3/8-inch holes must be center-punched and drilled for the remaining fasteners (step 11). The bumper facia also needs to be trimmed, and the fluid reservoir plastic needs to be trimmed as well.
Drill 3/8-inch holes for the two remaining fasteners that secure the baseplate to the frame (step 11). The holes for the bottom of the metal bumper are drilled using the baseplate as a template (step 9); specific hole sizes for those are not stated in the manual.
1. Remove grill, bumper facia screws, wheel well molding, fender nuts, and facia wiring. 2. Hold baseplate to frame and bolt to existing holes; relocate plastic end pieces and trim fluid reservoir. 3. Insert 1/2-inch nut plates into frame behind metal bumper (do not tighten). 4. Clamp baseplate to front of metal bumper. 5. Drill holes for bottom of metal bumper using baseplate as template. 6. Insert 1/2-inch nut plate through slots in front of metal bumper; apply Loctite and tighten per General Instruction Sheet. 7. Center-punch and drill 3/8-inch holes; use 3/8-inch hardware with Loctite and tighten. 8. Replace facia and electrical connections.
No. When inserting the 1/2-inch nut plates into the frame behind the metal bumper (step 7), do not tighten them at that stage. They are tightened later after the baseplate is properly positioned and the bolts are inserted.
The manual states that bolts should be tightened 'according to the chart in the General Instruction Sheet,' but that chart is not included in this document. Contact the manufacturer or refer to the separate General Instruction Sheet for specific torque values for the 1/2-13 and 3/8-16 bolts.
Yes. Loctite Blue must be applied to bolts before tightening. Specifically, Loctite is required when inserting the 1/2-inch nut plate through slots in the front of the metal bumper (step 10) and when tightening the 3/8-inch hardware (step 11).
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The kit includes two 36-inch class III safety cables (part 226-0046) and four 3/8-inch quicklinks (229-0359). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Safety cables are supplementary to and not a replacement for legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines, as improper installation could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts. The manual indicates that Blue Ox provides recommended cable arrangement illustrations, but specific mounting points for the Sentra 2000-01 are not detailed in this document.
After installation, ensure the bumper facia and electrical connections are properly reinstalled. Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Verify that all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications and that Loctite has been applied as required.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Permanent baseplate safety cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to receive alerts about product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and recalls.
Watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed and comes into contact with a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation. Do not mount permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
The BX1828 is designed for Nissan Sentra 2000-01 models only.
