Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.

The BX1825 baseplate fits 2001-04 Nissan Frontier models with both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. If your Frontier is a 2000 model or earlier, or 2005 or later, this baseplate is not compatible. Confirm your model year and drivetrain before purchasing.
The BX1825 baseplate fits 2000-04 Nissan XTerra models equipped with the V-6 engine. If your XTerra has a different engine or is outside the 2000-04 model years, this baseplate is not compatible.
You will need: 10MM wrench, 10MM socket, 12MM wrench, 12MM socket, Phillips screwdriver, small pry bar, 3/8" drill bit, 1" hole saw, and Loctite Red. A drill and vise grips are also necessary for installation.
The kit includes: one weldment baseplate (61-5449), six 3/8" wire nuts (61-4902), eight 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" hex bolts Grade 5 (201-0368), two 3/8" hex nuts (202-0003), eight 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), two 4-way connector adapters (101-5822), two #10-32 x 1/2" screws (201-0192), two #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), and two #10 lock washers (203-0054).
Six 13/32" holes must be drilled for baseplate installation. Some models may also require a 1" hole to be drilled into the frame end cap using a 1" hole saw if an end cap is welded to the frame.

Yes. The bumper must be removed to access the frame for baseplate installation. On 2000 models only, a plastic molded guard located directly behind the bumper is permanently removed and not replaced. The installer must give this removed piece to the vehicle owner. This step does not apply to 2001-04 models.
The attachment tabs extend through the grill opening four inches.
Inside the frame is a piece of metal obstructing the top back holes. A screwdriver must be used to push this metal back so a bolt can be inserted. On the front of each frame, a piece of metal must be pried open to create a gap large enough for the wire nuts to be inserted.
The manual requires using Loctite Red on all bolts before tightening and states that all bolts must be tightened according to a torque chart in the General Instruction sheet. However, the specific torque values are not provided in this installation manual. Consult the separate General Instruction sheet or contact Blue Ox for the exact torque specifications.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. Their function is to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. However, they are not a replacement for legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The manual references illustrations showing possible recommended arrangements, but does not provide detailed routing instructions in this document.
The installer must watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation. Do not mount permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
