Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX2711 is a baseplate designed specifically for the 2005 Kia Spectra. It is used to mount a tow bar to the vehicle for towing purposes. The baseplate includes an attachment tab height of 14.5 inches and width of 22 inches.
Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with the BX2711. The RangeFinder II, Adventurer, and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used due to the design of the removable tabs. The Acclaim tow bar may be used, but will not fold and store on the front of the vehicle.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX2711 baseplate. The exceptions are the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters, which are compatible.
Yes. The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for the 2005 Kia Spectra with the BX2711 baseplate.
The following tools are required: vise grips, reciprocating saw, 10MM socket, 12MM socket, 9/16" socket, 13/32" socket, Phillips screwdriver, hammer, and Phillips pushpin removal tool. Loctite RED is also required for all bolts.

The plastic cover and fascia must be removed and reinstalled during installation. The metal bumper must also be removed and reinstalled. Five Phillips pushpins are removed from the passenger's side plastic cover, six from the driver's side, three from each bottom corner of the fascia, four from the bottom of the fascia, one from each wheel well tie-down bracket area, and one metric bolt from each wheel well. The metal bumper is secured by six metric bolts (two 12MM and one 10MM per side) that must be removed.
Yes. Drilling is required. Using a 13/32" drill bit, you must drill through four baseplate holes into the frame to accommodate the 3/8-16 nut plates.
Yes. Trimming of the frame rail is required. The bumper bracket on the frame end must be marked and cut using a reciprocating saw. The top horizontal cut is approximately 4 3/4" from the top of the bracket, and the lower horizontal cut is 8 3/4" from the top of the bracket. A vertical line must be marked flush with the side of the frame rail. The marked area is removed with a reciprocating saw using horizontal cuts followed by vertical cuts to make the area flush with the frame.
The metal bumper is removed twice during installation. After the first removal, the bumper bracket is trimmed using a reciprocating saw. A square area is marked around the bolt hole closest to the outermost bumper bracket edge on the lower bumper bracket, and this area is cut out with the reciprocating saw to prepare the area for baseplate installation.
Yes. The newly cut area should be treated with spray paint as an anti-corrosive measure.
The manual references torque specifications on page 1 and page 3 of the General Instructions. The torque chart on page 1 shows Grade 5 and Grade 8 specifications for various bolt sizes. All bolts must be tightened according to the torque chart, and Loctite RED must be used on all bolts before tightening.
The attachment tab height is 14.5 inches and the attachment tab width is 22 inches.
1. Remove plastic cover and pushpins from both sides of the fascia. 2. Remove metric bolts from the top of the metal bumper bracket. 3. Remove pushpins from the bottom corners and bottom of the fascia. 4. Remove pushpins from wheel well tie-down brackets and metric bolts from wheel wells. 5. Remove the fascia. 6. Remove the six metric bolts securing the metal bumper and remove the bumper. 7. Bend the frame tab down flush with the frame side using a hammer on both sides. 8. Mark and trim the bumper bracket using a reciprocating saw. 9. Treat the cut area with spray paint. 10. Reinstall the bumper temporarily. 11. Mark and cut the area around the bolt hole on the lower bumper bracket. 12. Remove the bumper again. 13. Position the baseplate and clamp it with vise grips. 14. Drill the four remaining baseplate holes using a 13/32" drill bit. 15. Insert bolts with lock washers and tighten to nut plates using Loctite RED. 16. Reinstall the metal bumper. 17. Reinstall the fascia and plastic cover.
Guide the baseplate so that its curved area hugs the ribbed area of the frame. Position the baseplate until one of its bolt holes aligns with a pre-existing nut on the frame. Use a large vise grip to clamp the baseplate into place. Do this to both sides of the vehicle.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
It is recommended to slide one side of the bumper in first and then make adjustments so the other side can slide under the headlight assembly. It may be necessary to loosen the metric bolts of the headlight assembly in order to guide the bumper under the headlight assembly. Use Loctite RED on all bolts before tightening according to the torque chart.
The permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. Their principle function is to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame of the towed vehicle and the baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system.
The permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses or brake lines, as improper installation against these components could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts.
No. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.

It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite RED on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use if applicable.

It may be necessary to loosen the metric bolts of the headlight assembly in order to guide the bumper under the headlight assembly during reinstallation.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for auto manufacturer's tolerances. These minor adjustments may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, and/or bending end plates.
