Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes, the BX3211 is designed specifically for 1997–2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GT models. The baseplate mounts to the bottom of the steel inner bumper and the engine cradle. Note that dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable, so minor filing of holes may be necessary during installation.

Yes. You must drill out three hexagonal holes in the black engine cradle to 17/32". The steel inner bumper already has two 3/8" holes on each side at the bottom; the baseplate will bolt to the inner pair of these existing holes. You will also need to notch the air dam and the plastic piece the air dam was mounted on using a utility knife.
Drill out the three hexagonal holes in the black engine cradle to 17/32". These holes accommodate the rear braces of the baseplate.
Hold the baseplate under the bumper in its approximate position. The rear braces will match up to the three hexagonal holes in the engine cradle. Start the tabs through the grille, then tip the back of the baseplate into position. When the baseplate aligns with the holes, apply Loctite to all bolts and start them. Once all bolts are started, tighten them completely. Dimensional variations between cars may require minor filing of holes to allow bolts to clear.
The baseplate mounts to the bottom of the steel inner bumper using two 3/8" holes on each side (the baseplate uses the inner pair of these holes), and to the engine cradle using three hexagonal holes that are drilled to 17/32". A total of 5 bolts are used: 3 × 1/2-13 × 1 1/2 hex bolts for the engine cradle and 2 × 3/8-16 × 1 1/4 hex bolts for the bumper.
The manual does not provide torque specifications. However, the manual states that Loctite Red should be applied to all bolts and they should be tightened to recommended specifications. Contact the manufacturer or consult the tow bar instructions for the correct torque values.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. However, permanent baseplate safety cables are not a replacement for legally required safety cables that attach the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating; the combined rating of two cables is what matters, not the individual ratings.
Mount the permanent baseplate safety cables from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines, as improper installation could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation. The manual provides recommended arrangements in illustrations on page 3.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications and that Loctite Red has been applied. Also verify that all towing equipment is hooked up per manufacturer's instructions.
Only tow bars approved by Automatic Equipment Manufacturing Company are compatible with the BX3211. Use of any other tow bar invalidates the limited warranty. Consult the manufacturer or your dealer for a list of approved tow bars.

The manual mentions bending wire nuts so they will position over appropriate holes in the engine cradle. This allows them to align with the mounting points before the baseplate is fully positioned.
Dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. If a bolt does not clear a hole, it may be necessary to file the hole slightly to allow the bolt to pass through. Use a file to carefully enlarge the hole as needed.
