Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

Yes, trimming of the air dam below the metal bumper is required. On the passenger's side, mark 4 1/2" and 6 1/2" down from the top edge, draw lines as specified, and remove the front area with a utility knife (step 11). On the driver's side, mark 6 1/4" and 8 1/4" down and remove the marked area (step 12). Additional areas on the back side of the fascia and lower grill must also be removed with a utility knife (step 13).
Required tools are: 8MM socket, 10MM socket, 10MM wrench, 25 Torx socket, 30 Torx socket, 13/32" drill bit, utility knife, diagonal cutters, and Loctite red. A vise grip is also needed to clamp the baseplate to the frame during installation.
Six 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" hex bolts (Grade 5, zinc plated) with 3/8" lock washers are used. Three bolts are installed on each side. Loctite red must be applied to all bolts before tightening. The bolts are tightened according to the torque chart in the General Instruction sheet.
The baseplate is slid between the frame rails just behind the metal bumper and clamped to the frame with a large vise grip on both sides. The baseplate must be level with the vehicle before drilling. After drilling the three holes on each side with a 13/32" drill bit, nut plates are inserted into the opening on the front side of the metal bumper, aligned with the drill holes, and secured with 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" hex bolts and lock washers using a 9/16" socket.
After baseplate installation, reinstall the fascia and ensure all electrical components are plugged in properly. Hold the lower grill section as close to its original position as possible and cut an opening in the lower grill to allow the attachment tab receiver and convenience link (safety cable connection point) to come through. Then reinstall the lower grill.
Due to dimensional variations between vehicles, minor adjustments may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances. These may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, and adding shims and/or bending endplates.
