Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX1994 baseplate is designed for both 2011-2016 Chrysler Town & Country and 2011-2020 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles. However, you should verify your vehicle's front appearance matches the manual before installation. If your vehicle's front looks different, contact Blue Ox technical service at (402) 385-3051.
The BX1994 attachment tab height is 15 inches and the width is 24 inches.
Required tools include: large vise grip, flat screwdriver, utility knife, Phillips screwdriver, torque wrench, drill, reciprocating saw, tape measure, 3/8" drill bit, 10MM socket, 7/16" socket, 7/16" wrench, 9/16" socket, and 9/16" wrench. You will also need Loctite Red.
Yes. The fascia, temperature sensor, ECM, and windshield washer fluid reservoir must be removed and reinstalled during baseplate installation. All removed components should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface and will be reinstalled after the baseplate is installed.
Yes. Drilling is required. You will drill the lower front hole through the frame using a 3/8" drill bit, then continue drilling the remaining holes through the frame. The baseplate has five mounting holes total: two lower holes and three upper holes. Trimming of plastic shrouding is also required on both sides of the vehicle.
You must trim: (1) the upper section of the shielding on both sides of the vehicle (Step 7); (2) the plastic shrouding across under the metal plate back flush to the outside of the frame and down along the face of it on both sides (Step 11); (3) the temperature sensor bracket, which is then discarded (Step 12); and (4) the corners of the fascia backside for baseplate clearance on both sides (Step 17).
The manual provides a general torque chart for 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts (47 foot-pounds) and Grade 8 bolts (78 foot-pounds), but does not specify which grade is used for the baseplate frame mounting bolts. The installation instructions state to tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque according to the torque chart provided and to use Loctite Red on all bolt threads. Confirm the bolt grade with your installer or contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
The kit includes: 1 BX1994 baseplate, 2 attachment tab assemblies with holes, 1 breakaway bracket, 1 1/4"-20 x 3/4" hex head bolt (Grade 5), 2 #10-32 1/2" round slotted head screws, 12 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" hex head bolts (Grade 5), 1 1/4"-20 x 2-1/4" hex head bolt (Grade 5), 2 #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws, 2 #10-32 hex nuts, 12 3/8"-16 hex nylon insert lock nuts, 2 1/4"-20 hex nylon nuts, 2 #10 lock washers, 1 electrical bracket, 2 class IV safety cables, 2 1/2" quicklinks, and 2 black cap plug receivers.

If the baseplate is involved in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not reuse it. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You should reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications.
The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle.
In Step 6, disconnect the fog light and any other electrical connections before pulling the corners of the fascia away from the vehicle. The manual does not provide specific connector details; refer to your vehicle owner's manual for fog light connector information.
In Step 8, disconnect the temperature sensor from the bracket and move it to a secure location until after baseplate installation is complete. In Step 15, reinstall the temperature sensor to the bracket on the baseplate.
Position the baseplate onto the frame so the lower two holes are centered on the lower structure and the upper three holes are close to center on the frame lip. Level and clamp the baseplate into position before drilling.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Install on both sides of the vehicle. The cables are strongly recommended and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed.
Yes, the breakaway bracket installation is optional. If you choose to install it, position the bracket in the desired location and drill a 1/4" hole through the bumper. Secure the bracket with the 1/4" x 2-1/4" bolt and lock nut. Attach the breakaway to the bracket with the 1/4" x 3/4" bolt and lock nut.
In Step 18, hold the fascia as close to its original position, mark and trim the fascia around the convenience links and attachment tabs, then reinstall the fascia. Before reinstalling, ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. This includes the fog light and any other electrical components that were disconnected during removal.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and recalls.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on the baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty.
No. The permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. Both sets of cables are required.
Yes. Use a sufficient amount of Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening. Tighten all bolts according to the torque chart provided. This is required for all bolts on the baseplate.
Yes. Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting. This protects the frame from corrosion after drilling.
