Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX2641 baseplate fits 2009-2013 Ford F150 Pickup models in XL, STX, XLT, and Harley Davidson trim levels with Standard Tabs, 4WD, and without EcoBoost engine. If your vehicle has a different engine type, trim level, or is a different model year, this baseplate is not compatible. Verify your vehicle's specifications before purchasing.

You will also need a 1/4" drill bit and 17/32" drill bit.

Yes. The bumper must be removed at the start of installation and reinstalled after the baseplate is mounted. The bumper is removed by unbolting it from the frame using a 21MM socket (four bolts total: two from the top inner side, two from the underside outer side) and unbolting two 8MM bolts from the top. Any electrical connections must be unhooked before pulling the bumper from the vehicle.
No. The tow hooks are removed during installation (using a 15MM socket to remove two bolts from each side) and are not reinstalled. The tow hooks and their bolts should be set aside but will not be used again.
No. The lower air dam is removed only on 2010-11 models using a 13MM socket, and it will not be reinstalled. 2009 and 2012-13 models do not have this step.
Yes. Drilling is required in two locations. First, some vehicles may not have an existing back hole for the baseplate and will require drilling with a 17/32" drill bit. Second, the baseplate is used as a template to drill two holes on the sides of the baseplate using a 17/32" drill bit. The manual notes that dimensional variations between vehicles can be considerable, so some tailoring of the baseplate may be necessary.
Yes. For Harley Davidson edition only, the bumper must be trimmed around the baseplate using a utility knife after the baseplate is installed. The bumper is held as close as possible to its original position, marked for cutting, trimmed, and then reinstalled.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. Additionally, use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting.
For Grade 5 bolts (which are used on this baseplate), 1/2"-13 bolts should be torqued to 78 foot-pounds. For Grade 8 bolts, the specification is 119 foot-pounds. All bolts must be treated with Loctite Red before tightening.
For Grade 5 bolts (which are used on this baseplate), 1/4"-20 bolts should be torqued to 10 foot-pounds. For Grade 8 bolts, the specification is 14 foot-pounds. All bolts must be treated with Loctite Red before tightening.
The baseplate is aligned with two existing holes on the bottom of the frame. Four bolts total are used: two on each side. Each bolt uses a 1/2"-13 x 1-3/4" hex head bolt, a 1/2" lock washer, and a 1/2" flat washer. The front bolt (white) uses a 1/2"-13 nylon hex nut, and the back bolt (gray) uses a 1/2"-13 whiz nut plate. The plate should be pushed toward the frame while tightening. Some vehicles may not have the existing back hole and will require drilling with a 17/32" drill bit.
The electrical bracket is installed on either side of the vehicle depending on the location of the coach plug-in. Hold the bracket up and mark the mounting location on the back side. Attach using 1/4"-20 x 3/4" hex bolts, 1/4" lock washers, 1/4" flat washers, and 1/4"-20 whiz nuts.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. The safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and should not be used again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using a damaged baseplate could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
No. Do not use the towed vehicle for storing luggage, equipment, etc. This may cause you to exceed the towing capacity of the tow bar, baseplate, and its accessories.
Before reinstalling the bumper, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use.

Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty to the original retail purchaser covering defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The warranty is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint, or rust. The warranty is non-transferable.
