Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

No. The BX2309 baseplate is designed specifically for Hyundai Accent 1999–2000 model years only. Do not use on other model years or vehicles.
The front bumper facia and headlight assemblies must be removed. Additionally, each tie-down bracket must be removed from the vehicle. The fluid reservoir on the passenger side must be loosened to access the passenger-side bolts.
Yes. After the baseplate is positioned using four original tie-down bracket bolts, you must drill 3/8" holes for the lower bracing (step 9) and upper bracing (step 10). These holes are drilled using the baseplate as a template.
Yes. Look up from the bottom of the bumper facia and remove or cut the plastic pins. These pins will not be replaced.
The following tools are required: 14 mm wrench, 9/16" wrench, 10 mm wrench, 3/8" drill bit, Phillips screwdriver, wire cutter, and Loctite Blue.
The BX2309 kit includes: one weldment baseplate (61-5510), four 3/8" nut plates with wire (61-5208), four 3/8"-16 x 1 3/4" hex bolts grade 5 (201-0404), four 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), two 1/4"-20 x 1/2" self-tapping hex nuts (201-0553), two #10-32 x 1/2" slot round-head screws (201-0192), two #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), two #10 lock washers (203-0054), two 4-way connector adapters (101-5822), and four existing bolts from the tie-down brackets (reused).
Yes. Four of the original bolts from the tie-down brackets (two on each side) are reused to fasten the baseplate to the vehicle in step 8. The tie-down brackets themselves are removed.
1. Remove Phillips screws from the bumper facia. 2. Remove headlight assemblies. 3. Remove exposed Phillips head screw and 10 mm hex bolt on each side. 4. Remove Phillips head screws from the bottom of the bumper facia. 5. Remove or cut plastic pins from underneath the facia. 6. Pull back fender molding and remove Phillips head screw, then pull bumper facia from vehicle. 7. Remove tie-down brackets (loosen fluid reservoir for passenger-side access). 8. Position baseplate using four original bolts (two per side) over the tie-down bracket holes. 9. Drill 3/8" holes for lower bracing using baseplate as template, insert wire nut plates, and bolt with Loctite. 10. Repeat step 9 for upper braces. 11. Tighten all bolts to specification and reinstall bumper molding and headlights.
Both the lower and upper bracing holes are 3/8" diameter. A 3/8" drill bit is required.
3/8" hardware is used. Specifically: 3/8"-16 x 1 3/4" hex bolts grade 5 (201-0404), 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), and 3/8" nut plates with wire (61-5208). Loctite must be applied to each bolt.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables must have adequate weight rating and must not be mounted against wires, hoses or brake lines. Safety cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. They are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to recommended specifications using Loctite Red.
The installer must watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation.
Yes. Register your baseplate online at www.blueox.com. Registration is crucial so you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
