Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes, the BX2404 baseplate is designed for 1999-2001 Isuzu Trooper models. The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, so you may need to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear during installation.
You must remove the grill and bumper facia. Specifically: (1) Remove the push clips from the top of the grill with the Isuzu logo by releasing the lock on each clip. (2) Remove the screws in front of the grill and pull the grill molding out. (3) Remove the two bolts from each bracket on the back side of the bumper facia that are fastened to the frame. (4) Disconnect the wiring harnesses for the running lights (located directly above the front tires). (5) Pull the bumper facia away from the rubber U-shaped holding pieces.
You will need: 17mm wrench, 9/16" wrench, 5/8" wrench, Phillips screwdriver, 3/8" drill bit, and Loctite Blue.
The kit includes: 1 baseplate weldment (61-5404), 6 × 3/8" wire nuts (61-4978), 6 × 3/8-16 × 1½" hex bolts grade 5 (201-0440), 6 × 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), 4 × 10mm-1.25 × 30mm hex bolts grade 8.8 (201-0422), 4 × 10mm lock washers (203-0104), 2 × #12-14 × 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), 2 × 4-way connectors (101-5822), 2 × #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), 2 × #10 lock washers (203-0054), and 2 × #10-32 × ½" slotted round head screws (202-0192).
Yes, drilling is required. You will need to drill two holes on each side of the baseplate using a 3/8" drill bit. The bottom hole on the front plate aligns with an existing hole on the vehicle's frame, and one additional hole uses an existing opening further back on the frame. The remaining two holes per side must be drilled.
1. Position the baseplate on the frame as shown in the diagram. 2. Remove the two bolts on each side of the belly pan that align with the holes in the large plates on the baseplate. 3. Replace these bolts with the supplied 10mm bolts and washers (Items 5 and 6), bolting the baseplate to the frame but do not tighten completely. Use Loctite on all bolts. 4. Insert a 3/8" bolt and washer through the bottom hole on the front plate into the existing hole on the vehicle's frame. 5. Insert a 3/8" wire nut through the opening further back on the frame and thread the bolt into it, but do not tighten. Repeat for each side. 6. Drill the remaining two holes on each side and insert 3/8" bolts with wire nuts. 7. Once all ten bolts are started, tighten each according to the torque chart in the General Instruction Sheet.
Replace the bumper facia and grill piece, then reconnect the running light wiring harnesses. The dealer or installer must ensure the user receives the instruction sheet.
The manual references a torque chart in the General Instruction Sheet, which is not included in this installation guide. You must consult the General Instruction Sheet for the specific torque values for the 10mm bolts and 3/8" bolts. All bolts must be tightened according to those specifications after all ten bolts have been started.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system. The two cables together must meet the weight requirement—the rating of one cable alone is not sufficient. Safety cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and must be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten them to the recommended specifications.
