The Blue Ox BX3620 Tow Bar Bracket is a robust and reliable solution for your towing needs. Crafted from high-quality steel, this product delivers a perfect blend of durability and strength. The black powder coat finish not only complements your vehicle's appearance but also offers superior rust resistance. Designed for a bolt-on mounting, this tow bar bracket ensures a secure fit and easy installation. What's more, it comes with all the necessary hardware and comprehensive instructions, making it a perfect choice for DIY enthusiasts.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Blue Ox recommends that baseplates be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting the Technical Service Department at (402) 385-3051. However, the manual does not explicitly state that professional installation is mandatory.
The following components must be removed: fascia cover, bumper, windshield washer fluid reservoir, horn, frame brace (driver side), plastic shielding, and belly pan. All removed items are reinstalled after baseplate installation unless otherwise noted. The fascia removal procedure differs between WRX and Impreza/XV Crosstrek models.
Yes, drilling is required. The installation requires drilling with a 3/8" drill bit to ream out the back bottom factory hole on both sides of the vehicle, and to drill two additional holes through the frame for baseplate attachment. A 1/4" drill bit is also required if installing the optional breakaway bracket using Method #2.
Yes, significant trimming is required. Using a reciprocating saw, you must trim frame flanges on both sides of the vehicle (steps 12-14), trim the plastic shielding around the baseplate (step 19), and on WRX models trim the lower shield as needed (step 22). On Impreza models, trim the indicated area on the back of the fascia (step 22). The manual recommends using a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
Frame modifications include trimming frame flanges on both sides using a reciprocating saw (steps 12-14). On the passenger side only, trim out a notch in the lower corner of the frame face to allow the baseplate to slide onto the frame. After trimming, ream out the back bottom factory hole on both sides with a 3/8" drill bit, then drill two additional holes through the frame for baseplate bolts. The manual recommends painting cut edges with good quality paint to prevent rusting.

The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR.
Yes. The BX3620 includes two Class III permanent baseplate safety cables that must be installed. These cables are strongly recommended and must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables must not rub against hoses, wires, or brake lines. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables should be routed to the frame of the vehicle, securing them to a solid piece of the frame such as a frame rail or cross member. The cables must not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Two installation options are shown in the manual: Option #1 uses convenience link tabs on the baseplate, and Option #2 uses quicklinks. If additional options interfere with suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the General Information sheet.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do NOT use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do NOT use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. The owner is responsible for inspecting all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Blue Ox offers service at rallies and at their factory for a nominal fee to ensure the towing system is in proper working condition.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do NOT substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Warranty coverage is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any claim. The warranty is non-transferable and does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint or rust. Exceeding the vehicle's GVWR voids the warranty. Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle voids the warranty.
For WRX models, the removal sequence is: (1) Remove six bolts and three push pins from fascia cover top, (2) Release push pins from fascia/wheel well joint on both sides, (3) Remove nine push pins from fascia underside and unsnap corners, (4) Remove four bolts from bumper, (5) Remove two bolts from outer plastic shielding on both sides, (6) Remove three bolts from washer reservoir and disconnect lines, (7) Remove horn bolt, (8) Remove bracket bolt and unclip wire loom, (9) Remove four bolts from frame extension on driver side, (10) Remove two bolts and four push pins from belly pan, (11) Remove five bolts from plastic shield underside.
For Impreza and XV Crosstrek models, the removal sequence is: (1) Remove six push pins from fascia top edge, (2) Release push pin from fascia/wheel well joint on both sides, (3) Remove eight push pins from fascia underside, (4) Unsnap fascia corners and remove fascia, (5) Remove four bolts from bumper, (6) Remove one bolt from outer plastic shielding on both sides, (7) Remove three bolts from washer reservoir and disconnect lines, (8) Remove box from passenger side frame and wire loom, (9) Remove four bolts from driver side frame brace, (10) Unsnap belly pan from plastic pieces, (11) Remove two screws and four push pins from belly pan underside, (12) Remove bolt from belly pan bracket on both sides.
Position the baseplate onto the frame and install a 3/8"-16 x 1-1/2" bolt with 3/8" lock washer into the pre-drilled hole and a 3/8" nut plate on the inside of the frame on both sides. Level the baseplate and fully tighten all hardware. Then drill two additional holes through the frame: install a 3/8"-16 x 1-1/2" bolt with 3/8" lock washer into the top hole and a 3/8"-16 x 2" bolt with 3/8" lock washer into the bottom hole, using 3/8" nut plates on the inside of the frame. Use a provided spacer tube between the baseplate and frame on the lower hole. Apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads and tighten to appropriate torque specifications.
On WRX models, attach the bracket to the baseplate with the supplied 1/4" hardware, then reinstall the horn to the vehicle frame using existing hardware.
On Impreza and XV Crosstrek models, reattach the box to the frame just below the horn using the supplied self-tapping screw.
Two methods are available: Method #1: Using a 12MM socket, remove one factory brace bolt and reinstall with the breakaway bracket. Method #2: Using a 1/4" drill bit, drill a hole in the flange of the bumper at the desired location and install the breakaway bracket to the bumper with the supplied 1/4" hardware. Bend the lower flange up as needed to straighten the bracket. Then install the breakaway to the bracket with the supplied 1/4" hardware.
The BX3620 fits 2014-17 Subaru XV Crosstrek, 2015-16 Subaru Impreza, and 2015-20 Subaru WRX. If your vehicle model year or type differs, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
You need a reciprocating saw, drill with 1/4" and 3/8" bits, torque wrench, sockets (10MM, 12MM, 14MM, 9/16"), screwdrivers, utility knife, tape measure, and Loctite Red. Professional installation by a Blue Ox Dealer is recommended.
Yes. You must drill holes with a 3/8" bit and trim frame flanges with a reciprocating saw on both sides. Trimming of plastic shielding and fascia is also required. Paint cut edges to prevent rust.
Tighten 3/8" Grade 5 bolts to 33 foot-pounds. Apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads before tightening.
Use BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit for XV Crosstrek, Impreza, and 2015-18 WRX. Use BX8848 for 2019 WRX. Both require drilling a hole per kit instructions.
Yes, two Class III permanent baseplate safety cables are included and must be installed. They connect from the baseplate to the vehicle frame and must not rub against hoses or wires. They supplement, not replace, legally required towing safety cables.
The baseplate is rated to your vehicle's GVWR. Check your vehicle owner's manual for towing specifications and do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR, or the warranty is voided.
Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and functioning before reinstalling the fascia. Before each towing trip, inspect for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Retighten all bolts with Loctite Red to specification.
