Gooseneck equipment is the brand's signature. Gooseneck hitches mount in the truck bed over the rear axle, which places the load where the chassis can carry it properly and allows far tighter turning than a receiver hitch permits. Matching gooseneck couplers attach at the trailer end, in round tube and square configurations across the capacity range used by livestock, equipment and flatbed trailers.
The conventional trailer coupler range is built around the Wedge-Latch mechanism, which uses a wedge to take up wear between coupler and ball rather than relying on a fixed clamp that loosens over time. That matters on a trailer accumulating hard miles, where slack in the coupling shows up as noise and shock loading. Couplers are offered in A-frame form for standard tongues and in channel-mount form for straight tongue and fabricated frames, with adjustable channel versions that let a coupler be positioned to suit the tongue height.
Heavy-duty jacks complete the line, sized for the tongue weights that gooseneck and equipment trailers generate. How to Maintain Your BULLDOG® Square Tube Jack
This is a 12,000 lb square jack. However, the actual capacity is limited to the lesser of the jack, footplate, or caster wheel capacity. Always refer to the stamped markings or decals on the product itself to confirm the rated capacity for your specific unit. The jack has a 2-speed shift pattern where the handle moves 5/8 to 3/4 inch while shifting between gears. High gear is engaged when the shaft is pushed in; low gear is engaged when the shaft is pulled out. This 5/8–3/4 inch clearance must be accounted for during installation to ensure the handle can move freely without interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, or other mounted accessories.
These jacks are designed for mounting to flat surfaces only. Before mounting, confirm that there will be no interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, and any other mounted accessories while stationary or in motion. Check for interference in all positions including handle swing in both gears and swivel positions if applicable. Check for interference again after installation is complete.
Yes. If your jack has a pivot tube mount, you must ensure the pivot pin is fully inserted through both sides of the pivot tube and the pivot mount before using the jack. The pivot tube is welded to the tongue using a 1/4 inch fillet weld all around the non-beveled side, and the jack is then secured to the pivot tube with the supplied pin.
A drop leg is an optional component that extends the jack's reach. Before using the jack with a drop leg, you must ensure the drop leg pin is fully inserted into the jack. The drop leg pin must be verified to have no clearance between the pin and housing. If clearance is visible, you must adjust the drop leg to fully seat the pin into the hole location. Do not use the jack if you are unable to fully seat the pin. The drop leg will either naturally drop (non-spring return models with handles) or retract quickly (spring return models without handles) depending on your model.
All welding must be performed by an AWS (American Welding Society) certified welder. This is a mandatory requirement stated multiple times in the installation instructions. If you are not an AWS certified welder, you must hire a qualified professional to perform the welding.
For direct mount installation: (1) All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder. (2) Place the jack at the desired location. (3) Weld 3 inches in 2 locations on both sides of the jack using a 1/4 inch fillet weld. The three 2-inch long 1/4 inch fillet welds must be placed on both sides of the jack along the contacting surface, as far apart as possible to maximize strength under load. Before mounting, confirm there will be no interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, and any other mounted accessories while stationary or in motion.
For weld-on pivot tube mounting: (1) All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder. (2) The non-beveled side of the pivot tube is welded to the tongue. (3) Place the weld-on pivot tube against the tongue and weld all around with a 1/4 inch fillet weld. (4) Align one set of pivot mount holes vertically. (5) Mate the jack to the pivot tube and secure with the supplied pin. Ensure the pivot pin is fully inserted through both sides of the pivot tube and the pivot mount before using the jack.
If mounting jacks in a tandem application, align the jacks carefully so they raise and lower together and share the load equally. This ensures balanced loading and prevents uneven stress on the mounting structure.
The manual does not specify drilling requirements for direct mount or pivot tube mounting. Both mounting methods rely on welding with 1/4 inch fillet welds. Critical safety precautions: (1) Never position any part of your body under any portion of the jack or the load being supported. (2) Fully retract and/or rotate the jack before towing. (3) Secure the load, vehicle, and trailer from rolling by blocking wheels when operating the jack or coupling the trailer. (4) Never exceed the maximum rated capacity. (5) Do not allow children to play on or around the jack or load. (6) Keep clear of pinch points at the drop leg pin and holes in the drop leg. (7) Never attempt to adjust the drop leg when the jack is under load. (8) Always replace bent, broken, or worn parts before using the product.
These jacks are designed for vertical loading only. Excessive side forces may cause jack failure and must be avoided. Using the jack for any purpose other than vertical loading is at your own risk and may result in product failure, property damage, serious bodily injury, or death.
Before towing, you must fully retract and/or rotate the jack. This prevents the jack from interfering with the road, other vehicles, or obstacles during transport. Additionally, verify that the jack handle has adequate clearance (5/8–3/4 inch) to move freely during shifting, and ensure the drop leg pin is fully inserted if a drop leg is equipped.
After installation is complete, you must check for interference again in all positions including handle swing in both gears (if applicable) and swivel positions (if applicable). Verify that the jack can move freely without contacting the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, or any other mounted accessories while stationary or in motion. If you have a drop leg, verify that the drop leg pin is fully inserted into the jack by checking for no clearance between the drop leg pin and housing.
Maintenance procedures should be performed at least annually. The gears, bushings, and screw of the jack must be kept lubricated. For side-wind models, apply a small amount of automotive grease with a grease gun at the lubrication points found on the side of the jack near the input shaft, then rotate the jack handle to distribute the grease evenly. A lightweight oil must be applied to the input shaft bushings at both sides of the jack or gearbox. For top-wind models, lubricate the screw-stem with lightweight oil. If equipped, keep the drop leg pin and spring clean and lubricated with lightweight oil.
Use automotive grease (applied with a grease gun) at the lubrication points on side-wind models. Use lightweight oil on the input shaft bushings at both sides of the jack or gearbox, and on the screw-stem of top-wind models. If equipped, use lightweight oil on the drop leg pin and spring. Apply grease and oil at least annually.
Always replace bent, broken, or worn parts before using this product. If you notice any damage during inspection or maintenance, do not use the jack until the damaged parts have been replaced. Use only Cequent Performance Products parts or parts of equal quality for repair. Replacement parts are available through Cequent Performance Products Customer Service Department at 1-800-521-0510. Cequent Performance Products warrants the jack to be free from material defects in both material and workmanship for five years from the date of purchase, ordinary wear and tear excepted. This warranty applies only to the original consumer purchaser and is not transferable. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage from abuse, neglect, misuse, accidents, misapplication, overloading, improper installation (including welds), improper maintenance and repair, or product alterations made by anyone other than Cequent Performance Products. If the product does not comply with the warranty, your sole remedy is replacement without charge or refund of the purchase price at Cequent's option. For spring return drop leg models (without handles), place your foot on the foot plate to control the return of the drop leg. For non-spring return drop leg models (with handles), grasp the handle of the foot plate to control the fall of the drop leg. The drop leg will naturally drop or retract quickly depending on your model, so you must be prepared to control it manually during adjustment.
