Connect to your lifestyle with a custom hitch receiver from CURT. All of our custom hitches are designed for a vehicle-specific fit, manufactured with pride, finished for industry-leading rust resistance and tested to rigorous SAE J684 standards for safety. This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Volkswagen Passat (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you?re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

Yes, hitch 11054 is designed for 1998–2005 Volkswagen Passat Sedan and Wagon models, except 4Motion. If your vehicle is a 4Motion model, this hitch is not compatible.
The hitch has a gross load capacity of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner manual for the maximum towing limit.
Non-trailer loads can be attached, but they must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Hitch 11054 is designed for use with ballmount #55001 or #45501.
Yes. The first installation step is to remove the spare tire from the vehicle. After installation is complete, the spare tire is returned to the vehicle in Step 7.
Yes. Drilling is required in two locations: a 17/32" hole in the trunk pan, and two holes in the vehicle bumper beam. A 17/32" drill bit is required. The hitch is used as a template to mark the drilling locations.
Yes. The passenger side fascia must be trimmed to clear the hitch bumper bracket. This is done in Step 3 after centering the hitch under the vehicle.
The hitch includes: four 1/2-13 x 1 3/4" carriage bolts, four hex flange nuts (HFN 1213), four 0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP4), and two 1/2" fishwires.
Required tools are: socket wrench, 3/4" socket, Torx head T-25, Torx head T-27, 10mm socket, torque wrench, drill, and 17/32" drill bit. You will also need silicone sealant to seal the trunk pan holes after installation.
1. Remove spare tire and the plug from the trunk pan. 2. Remove the plastic cover on the passenger side that attaches the fascia to the trunk pan. 3. Center the hitch and trim the passenger side fascia. 4. Secure the hitch through the existing hole using 1/2" hardware and a spacer, then drill and install remaining hardware in the trunk pan. 5. Drill two holes in the bumper beam and secure with 1/2" hardware and spacers (wagon models require fishwiring bumper hardware through the ends of the bumper). 6. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft and seal trunk pan holes with silicone sealant. 7. Return the spare tire.
All 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
Yes. In Step 2, remove the plastic cover on the passenger side that attaches the vehicle fascia to the trunk pan. This cover and its hardware should be returned to the vehicle owner.
The CM-SP4 spacers (0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers) are installed with the 1/2" carriage bolts and hex flange nuts. Four spacers are included: one is used through the existing hole in the trunk pan (Step 4), and three are used when securing the hitch to the bumper beam (Step 5).
The two 1/2" fishwires are used for wagon models to wire the bumper hardware through the ends of the bumper beam during installation (Step 5).
Wagon models require an additional step: the bumper hardware must be fishwired through the ends of the bumper beam (Step 5). The manual does not specify whether sedan models require this step or a different approach.
Silicone sealant must be applied to the trunk pan holes to prevent water and debris from entering the vehicle interior through the drilled holes.
Periodically check the hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This helps maintain the integrity and safety of the installation.
The hitch weight is 22 lbs.
Yes, if it is a 1998–2005 Sedan or Wagon model, except 4Motion. Check your vehicle documentation to confirm the model year and drivetrain.
You need a socket wrench, 3/4" and 10mm sockets, Torx T-25 and T-27 bits, a torque wrench, a drill with 17/32" bit, and silicone sealant.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
The hitch supports 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight, but you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
