The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. Yes. You must use a die grinder to enlarge the rear hole in the driver side frame rail. This hole is used as an access point for fishwiring the mounting hardware. This is a permanent modification to the vehicle frame.
Fishwiring is a technique to route mounting hardware through the vehicle frame using a flexible wire. The manual requires fishwiring of 1/2" mounting hardware forward through the driver side frame access hole (step 3), then reverse fishwiring the hardware rearward (step 4). This allows the hitch to attach to the frame without drilling multiple holes. Two 1/2" fishwires are included in the parts kit.
Yes. In step 1, locate the two plastic fascia clips at the rear of the vehicle and use a flat-head screwdriver to pry them out. This provides visibility and access to the rear frame. You must retain these clips and reattach them in step 7 after the hitch is installed.
On the driver side, the hitch attaches to the fishwired 1/2" mounting hardware. On the passenger side, 3/8" hardware pushes through the rear of the vehicle frame and is secured with a 9/16" socket on the front side while being held tightly on the back side with a boxed-end wrench. This is described in step 5.
The rear hitch plate is attached using one 1/2" carriage bolt, a hex flange nut, and a 0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacer (CM-SP4). This is step 6 of the installation.
