The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. You will need a 3/4" ratchet socket and a torque wrench. The manual notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required. All fasteners (carriage bolts, spacers, and hex flange nuts) are supplied with the hitch.
No, drilling is not required. The CURT 11399 uses fishwire fasteners that thread through existing frame access holes on your Audi A3. The hitch mounts to existing holes on both sides of the frame rails.

1. Fishwire the four 1/2" x 1 1/2" carriage bolts and four CM-SP6 spacers into the forward frame access holes and into the mounting holes toward the rear of the vehicle. 2. Raise the hitch into position over the exhaust, being careful not to push the carriage bolts back into the frame rails. Loosely install the four supplied 1/2" hex flange nuts. 3. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. Installation is then complete.
All 1/2" fasteners (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to achieve this specification. This is the final step of installation.
The CURT 11399 includes: (4) carriage bolts 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" Grade 8, (4) hex flange nuts HFN 1213 Grade 8, (2) 1/2" fishwire, and (4) square hole spacers CM-SP6 (.250 x 1.00 x 3.00"). All fasteners needed for installation are supplied.
Leave the hex flange nuts loose when you first install them in step 2. Only after raising the hitch into position and installing all four nuts loosely should you torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft in step 3. This ensures proper alignment before final tightening.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a particular interval, so regular visual inspection before each towing use is recommended. If any fasteners have loosened, retorque them to 110 lb-ft.
