The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. Non-trailer (wheel-less) loads can be attached, but all such loads must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads voids the product warranty.
Required tools include: ratchet, 8mm/10mm/16mm/17mm sockets, T40 torx bit, 3/8" 12-point socket or E12 external torx socket, flathead screwdriver, torque wrench, tape measure, rotary tool with cut wheel, masking tape, plastic panel removal tool, and safety glasses. Black spray paint and silicone sealant are also needed.
The kit includes: (4) M10 hex tap bolts (M10 - 1.5 x 35mm), (8) M10 flat washers, and (4) M10 - 1.5 nylock hex nuts. The hitch also uses existing vehicle M10 flange nuts on the outer bumper beam studs.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and notes that using proper tools will greatly improve installation quality and reduce time required.
No drilling is required. The installation uses existing vehicle mounting points and involves cutting off inner bumper beam studs, but no new holes are drilled into the vehicle.
The following permanent modifications are required: (1) Cut off the heads of (4) inner bumper beam studs and knock them off using a hammer. (2) Remove a 1.63" wide x 1.38" deep rectangle from the center bottom portion of the fascia panel using a rotary tool with cut wheel. (3) Remove the bumper cover, taillights, heat shields, exhaust hangers, and interior trim panels.
The rectangle must be 1.63" wide x 1.38" deep, cut from the center bottom portion of the fascia panel. Use a tape measure, marker, and rotary tool with cut wheel to make this cut.
Torque the (4) inner M10 nylock nuts to 45.2 ft-lbs. Torque the outer (4) factory M10 flange nuts on the bumper beam studs to 31.6 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench and 17mm socket for the inner nuts and 16mm socket for the outer nuts.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Since the installation involves removing taillights and their wiring harnesses, consult your vehicle manufacturer's instructions or a qualified technician before beginning work.
Silicone sealant must be applied around the (4) inner mounting holes on the outside of the vehicle and around the base of the (4) bolts on the inside of the vehicle. This is critical to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the vehicle.
Installation follows this general sequence: (1) Remove fascia screws, plastic rivets, wheel well screws, trunk hooks, tie downs, and interior panels. (2) Remove taillights and disconnect wiring. (3) Remove bumper cover. (4) Remove heat shields and exhaust hangers. (5) Remove bumper beam. (6) Cut off inner bumper beam studs and clean holes. (7) Apply silicone sealant. (8) Install hitch and secure with bolts and nuts. (9) Torque fasteners. (10) Cut fascia panel opening. (11) Reinstall exhaust hangers, heat shields, bumper cover, taillights, and interior components.
The outer (4) bumper beam studs use existing vehicle M10 flange nuts. The (4) inner mounting points use supplied M10 hex tap bolts (M10 - 1.5 x 35mm), M10 flat washers, and M10 nylock hex nuts. The bumper cover, taillights, heat shields, and exhaust hangers are reinstalled using their original fasteners.
