This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.

The manual specifies a gross load capacity when used as a weight-carrying hitch, but the specific capacity values are not printed in this version of the manual. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-800-798-0813 for exact towing and tongue weight specifications. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Required tools are: ratchet, 3/4" socket, torque wrench, and die grinder with carbide bit. Fishwire is also required to pull carriage bolts and spacers through holes in the frame rail during installation.
Drilling may be required. The manual states that if there is access to put the bolt and spacer into the frame rail from the end, no drilling is needed. Some vehicles have different tie-down hooks that allow access to frame rail ends. If access is not available, you may need to drill an access hole in the frame to pass fasteners through using fishwire. A die grinder with carbide bit is listed as a required tool.
The exhaust vibration dampener may interfere with the side plate. If it does, bend or pry the dampener away from the side plate as needed. The manual notes that exhaust bracket modification may be required on some vehicles.
1. Using fishwire, pull carriage bolts and square hole spacers through holes in the bottom of the frame rail (may require drilling an access hole). 2. Place spacer on passenger side bolt and raise hitch into position. Hand tighten the fasteners. 3. Fishwire the remaining fasteners into position and secure with conical tooth washers and hex nuts. 4. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This includes the six carriage bolts (1/2-13 x 1 3/4") that are secured with conical toothed washers and hex nuts.
The kit includes: 1 square hole spacer (CM-SP43, .375 x 1.25 x 2.50"), 6 carriage bolts (1/2-13 x 1 3/4"), 6 square hole spacers (CM-SP6, .250 x 1.00 x 3.00"), 6 conical toothed washers (1/2"), 6 hex nuts (1/2-13), and 2 pieces of 1/2" fishwire.
All non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The hitch has a specified gross load capacity, but you must follow the lower of either the hitch capacity or your vehicle's manufacturer recommendation.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the integrity and safety of the installation.
