A CURT trailer hitch is the key to pursuing your passions, whether you're taking the family boat out for an afternoon on the water or packing up the mountain bikes for a day on the trails. This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Subaru Legacy and Outback (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.

This hitch is designed for 1990–2004 Subaru Legacy Sedan and 1995–2004 Outback models only. Confirm your model year and body style before purchase.
This hitch is designed for use with Curt ball mount D-19 / 45519.
The installation kit includes a 1/2" fishwire tool for inserting carriage bolts into the frame rails. You will also need standard wrenches or sockets to tighten 1/2" fasteners. No power tools are mentioned as required.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Contact Curt technical support at 1-800-798-0813 for guidance.
No. The manual explicitly states "NO DRILLING REQUIRED." The hitch uses existing frame rail holes and tow loop attachment points.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs.
The manual does not provide specific capacity values. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Contact Curt at 1-800-798-0813 or consult your vehicle documentation for capacity details.
Non-trailer loads are permitted only if supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads voids the product warranty.
The kit includes: 4 hex flange nuts (HFN 1213), 2 carriage bolts (1/2-13 x 1 3/4"), 2 square hole spacers (CM-SP6, 0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00"), 2 hex bolts (1/2-13 x 2"), 4 round hole spacers (CM-SP25, 0.250 x 1.38 x 1.50"), and 1 fishwire tool (1/2").
No. This hitch is designed for 1995–2004 Outback models only. A 2005 model is outside the supported range and requires a different hitch.
Yes, but only temporarily. Step 1 requires you to lower the vapor canister (black plastic box) attached to the passenger side frame rail. The hoses do not need to be disconnected. The canister is reattached in Step 7 after the hitch is secured.
Partially. Step 2 requires you to remove the rearmost exhaust hanger and move the muffler to one side to provide clearance for hitch installation. The hanger is reattached in Step 7 after the hitch is secured.
The fishwire tool is used to insert the carriage bolts (1/2-13 x 1 3/4") into the frame rails from the bottom. Step 3 instructs you to "reverse fishwire" the carriage bolts and SP6 spacers into the frame rails after removing the rubber plugs from the bottom of the frame rails. This allows the bolts to be positioned before the hitch is raised into place.
When raising the hitch into position, the driver side plate must be on the outside of the tow loop and the passenger side plate must be on the inside of the tow loop.
1. Insert carriage bolts and SP6 spacers into frame rails using the fishwire tool (Step 3). 2. Raise hitch into position and align with tow loop holes (Step 4). 3. Secure hitch to carriage bolts with 1/2" flange nuts (Step 4). 4. Align side plate holes with tow loop holes and insert SP25 spacers and 1/2-13 x 2" hex bolts (Step 5). 5. Secure with 1/2" flange nuts (Step 5). 6. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs (Step 6).
CM-SP6 spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00" square hole) are used with the carriage bolts in the frame rails (Step 3). CM-SP25 spacers (0.250 x 1.38 x 1.50" round hole) are used with the hex bolts at the tow loop attachment points (Step 5). Both spacers maintain proper alignment and spacing during assembly.
All 1/2" fasteners (hex flange nuts and hex bolts) must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This includes the 4 flange nuts securing the carriage bolts and the 4 flange nuts securing the hex bolts at the tow loop. No other torque specifications are provided in the manual.
Periodically check that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a retorque interval or maintenance schedule beyond this general inspection requirement.
