A CURT 5th wheel wedge is a simple but reliable way to allow a CURT 5th wheel hitch to be used with a rotating 5th wheel pin box. A pin box mounts on top of the 5th wheel head and provides a new pivot point for the kingpin and wider turn radius for the 5th wheel trailer. To keep the pin box from swiveling in its 5th wheel mounting location, a 5th wheel wedge inserts into the hitch head, locking the pin box into place. This 5th wheel wedge is designed to fit the CURT E16 5th wheel and accommodates the Sidewinder* pin box. It comes with all necessary hardware and features a durable carbide finish for rust-resistance.

The CURT 16991 is a 5th wheel wedge designed to fit E-series 5th wheel hitches. It attaches to the pin box and helps secure the coupling between the towing vehicle and trailer by wedging into the skid plate. The wedge is part of the 5th wheel hitch assembly system.
CURT 16991 fits E-series 5th wheel hitches. If you have an A-series 5th wheel hitch, you need CURT 16992 instead. Check your hitch documentation or contact CURT at 877.287.8634 to confirm which series you have.
CURT 16991 is designed for E-series 5th wheel hitches, while CURT 16992 is designed for A-series 5th wheel hitches. Both are 5th wheel wedges but are specific to their respective hitch series.
You need a ratchet, socket set, and a rubber mallet. The ratchet and socket set are used to tighten the 5/8" bolts, and the rubber mallet is used to tap the wedge into the skid plate during installation.

Yes. The wedge installation requires you to couple and uncouple the trailer following the 5th wheel hitch and pin box installation manual. You should read all instructions thoroughly before beginning, and refer to the hitch manual for proper coupling and uncoupling procedures.
1. Attach the wedge to the pin box using two 5/8" bolts and two 5/8" lock washers, tightening until the lock washers begin to engage. 2. Apply grease to both sides of the wedge and skid plate. 3. Couple the trailer following the 5th wheel hitch manual. 4. Tap the wedge into the skid plate as much as possible with a rubber mallet. 5. Tighten one or both bolts if accessible. 6. Uncouple the trailer. 7. Tighten both 5/8" bolts to 150 ft-lbs torque.
Apply grease to both sides of the wedge and skid plate after attaching the wedge to the pin box with the bolts and lock washers, but before coupling the trailer.
