The CURT weight distribution hitch is a specialized towing system that provides improved vehicle and trailer control by leveling the trailer and more evenly distributing its tongue weight across the trailer's and vehicle's axles. Weight distribution hitches are commonly used on travel trailers and campers but can also be applied to other large loads. This replacement weight distribution hookup bracket makes it easy to attach a spring bar to the tongue frame of your trailer and get the exact tension needed to level your towing setup. It features a bolt-on mounting system for secure attachment to your trailer and offers a snap-up design that can be leveraged into place with a weight distribution lift handle #17112. To ensure long-lasting use, this replacement spring bar hanger comes with a durable powder coat finish. One hanger is included in this package. Two spring bars are always required when using a weight distribution hitch.

It allows the spring bars to operate properly during towing by maintaining the correct tension and clearance. The snap-up bracket raises and lowers to manage the spring bar chain connection.
The Curt 17208 is designed for trailers equipped with an A-frame and spring bar chain system. The manual does not specify compatibility with particular trailer brands or models. Consult your trailer manufacturer or a Curt dealer to confirm fitment for your specific trailer.
The kit includes snap-up brackets, a 1/2-13 x 4" bolt (or 1/2-13 x 2" bolt if the A-frame is large), a spring clip, and washers. If the trailer frame does not accommodate 1/2-13 bolts, 3/8" hardware (self-tapping or nut and bolt) is supplied as an alternative. The manual does not specify the complete contents of the kit.
A wrench is required to tighten the mounting bolts. If drilling is necessary, a drill capable of making holes for 1/2-13 or 3/8" hardware is needed. The manual does not specify additional tools required for assembly or chain connection.
Yes. Before operating the snap-up bracket, raise the bumper of your tow vehicle using the trailer tongue jack approximately one inch. This reduces spring bar tension and makes snap-up bracket operation easier. Retract the tongue jack after installation so the hitch carries the full trailer weight.
Position the snap-up brackets on the trailer A-frame and hold the spring bar chain vertical. Center the snap-up brackets with the chain. See Figure 7 in the manual for reference.
Turn the 1/2-13 x 4" bolt until it contacts the frame, then tighten 1/2 to 3/4 turn with a wrench. Do not over-tighten. If the A-frame is quite large, a 1/2-13 x 2" bolt is supplied as a replacement.
If the trailer does not permit the use of 1/2-13 bolts, you may drill optional holes large enough for 3/8" hardware (self-tapping or nut and bolt). However, you must consult the trailer frame manufacturer for approval prior to drilling holes. Drilling without approval may void the warranty and damage the trailer.
1. With the snap-up bracket in the raised position, pull straight up firmly on the spring bar chain and note which link is closest to the chain hook. Count down 2 links; that link will be used for hook-up. 2. Lower the snap-up bracket and attach the upper end of the chosen chain link to the snap-up bracket hook, allowing remaining free links to fall down outside the trailer frame. 3. Ensure at least 5 links remain between the snap-up bracket and the spring bar. 4. Raise the snap-up bracket using the handle and insert the spring clip. 5. Repeat for the opposite spring bar using the same number of links.
There must be at least 5 links between the snap-up bracket and the spring bar. This is necessary for proper operation of the spring bars during turns. If fewer than 5 links remain, the angle of the head assembly must be increased by uncoupling the trailer, removing the upper bolt from the head assembly, pivoting it down, and adding an additional washer underneath the pin before reassembling.
Keep clear of all moving parts when raising the snap-up bracket using the handle. Do not over-tighten the mounting bolts. Failure to connect the spring bar chain correctly and provide at least 5 links between the snap-up bracket and spring bar can result in damage to the snap-up bracket.
