The CURT weight distribution hitch is a specialized towing system that provides improved vehicle and trailer control by leveling the trailer and more evenly distributing its tongue weight across the trailer's and vehicle's axles. Weight distribution hitches are commonly used on travel trailers and campers but can also be applied to other large loads. These replacement weight distribution hookup brackets make it easy to attach spring bars to the tongue frame of your trailer and avoid interfering with an LP tank or other obstruction. They feature a bolt-on mounting system for secure attachment to your trailer and include all necessary installation hardware. Some drilling may be required. To ensure long-lasting use, these replacement spring bar hangers come with a durable powder coat finish.

CURT offers a variety of high-quality trailer hitches and accessories for select vehicle models. Find the perfect fit for your towing needs at TowUniverse.
CURT, a Lippert brand, offers a complete line of towing products and is the leading manufacturer of custom-fit trailer hitches. We offer the broadest selection of custom-fit hitches, and each one is designed, welded, and coated in Wisconsin.

Call 888-634-9494The Curt 17005 is a set of bolt-on chain hangers designed for weight distribution hitches. The kit includes two hanger weldments that attach to the outside of a trailer frame to support and position the chains of a weight distribution hitch system. Each hanger is secured with bolts and hardware.
The Curt 17005 is designed for use with trailers that have either tube frames or C-channel frames. The hangers are mounted on the outside of the trailer frame directly above the chains of the weight distribution hitch.
The kit includes: 2 hanger weldments (17005-003), 2 F-4 clips (CM-F4C), 4 nylock hex nuts (1/2"-13), 4 flat washers 12 gauge zinc plated (FW12), 4 conical toothed washers (1/2"), 4 hex bolts (1/2"-13 x 1 3/4"), and 4 hex bolts (1/2"-13 x 5").
A 17/32" drill bit is required for drilling the mounting holes. You will also need a clamp to hold the hanger weldment in position during drilling, and a wrench or socket set to install and torque the bolts and nuts.
The hangers must be clamped to the outside of the trailer frame directly above the chains of the weight distribution hitch. They must be positioned 1/4" to 1/2" from the top of the trailer frame to allow adequate space for nut and washer placement during installation.
Before drilling, move any objects that may interfere with the drilling process. Clamp the hanger weldment to the outside of the trailer frame in the correct position (1/4"-1/2" from the top of the frame, directly above the chains). Mark the center of the slots on the hanger before removing it to drill.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill holes through the trailer frame using a 17/32" drill bit. The holes are drilled at the center of the slots marked on the hanger weldment.
A 17/32" drill bit is required to drill the mounting holes through the trailer frame.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 75 lb-ft.
1. Clamp the hanger weldment to the outside of the trailer frame directly above the chains, positioned 1/4"-1/2" from the top of the frame. 2. Mark the center of the slots, remove the hanger, and drill using a 17/32" drill bit. 3. Place the hanger back into position and install fasteners as shown in the parts diagram. 4. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 75 lb-ft. 5. Repeat for the other side.
1. With the trailer attached to the vehicle, raise the trailer tongue and vehicle with the jack. 2. Hang the closest chain link over the hanger on both sides as shown in the operation diagram. 3. Lower the vehicle to ensure the vehicle and trailer are in alignment. Once aligned, insert the F-4 clips.
The F-4 clips are inserted after the chain links are hung over the hangers and the vehicle and trailer are aligned. They secure the chain links in position on the hangers.
The Curt 17005 is designed for trailers with tube frames or C-channel frames that use a weight distribution hitch. Confirm your trailer frame type and that it has a weight distribution hitch system before purchasing.
