A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Nissan Titan (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Part number 31199 is a receiver hitch manufactured by Curt Manufacturing designed for the Nissan Titan. It is a weight-carrying hitch with a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight.
Yes, the Curt 31199 is designed for the Nissan Titan. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, even though the hitch itself is rated for 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or specification plate for your specific towing limits.
The kit includes: 4× 1/2-13 UNC grade 8 bolts (1-1/2" long), 4× 1/2-13 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts, 4× M12×1.25 class 10.9 hex cap screws (45 mm), 2× 1/2" S-con washers, 2× 0.188" × 1.50" × 2.00" round hole spacers, 4× 0.188" × 1.00" × 3.00" square hole spacers, and 1× 1/2" fishwire.
Yes. You must remove the tow hooks and underbody skid shield (if present) before installation. These are reinstalled after the hitch is mounted. The skid shield may need trimming to fit around the installed hitch.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill center mounting holes on both sides of the frame rails using the hitch as a template. The manual does not specify the drill bit size or hole diameter.
Fishwire fastening is a method for installing fasteners into existing welded nuts on the frame. The 1/2" fishwire is threaded through the holes to secure fasteners. According to the installation steps, you must fishwire fasteners into the drilled holes first, then use the reverse pull method to fishwire fasteners into the remaining holes. The diagram indicates which holes to fishwire first and which to do last.
1. Remove tow hooks and underbody skid shield (if present). 2. Raise hitch into position and use it as a template to drill center mounting holes on both sides. 3. Lower hitch and fishwire fasteners into position, fishwiring drilled holes first, then remaining holes using reverse pull method. 4. Raise hitch back into position and install hex nuts. 5. Reinstall tow hooks using holes in hitch, using spacer blocks as needed to level them. 6. Torque all M12 fasteners to 86 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. 7. Trim skid shield as needed and reinstall.
Use the spacer blocks included in the kit. The kit includes 2× round hole spacers (0.188" × 1.50" × 2.00") and 4× square hole spacers (0.188" × 1.00" × 3.00"). Place spacers between the tow hooks and hitch as needed to achieve level positioning.
All M12 fasteners must be torqued to 86 lb-ft. All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. These torque values apply to the hex cap screws (M12×1.25) and the 1/2-13 UNC bolts respectively.
The hitch is rated for a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or specification plate for your specific limits.
Before towing, ensure that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the hitch during use to maintain safety. Do not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR), which is found in your owner manual or on the specification plate on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale.
The manual does not specify whether a ball mount can be used with this hitch. However, the manual explicitly warns that you must never use a ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable, as severe personal injury or death could result.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching the return cable to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front mounted receiver.
Use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use a ball mount as an anchor point, as this could result in severe personal injury or death. Observe the winch manufacturer's recommendations, cautions and warnings. When using a snatch block, attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Use cable damping such as towels or jackets on the tow hook or recovery eye. Ensure the winch cable does not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, or 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead.
After installation, ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the hitch during use to maintain these conditions. The manual recommends periodic checks to ensure continued safety and proper function.
The manual states that you should periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval for these checks.
Yes, the Curt 31199 is designed for the Nissan Titan. It is rated for 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight, but you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill center mounting holes on both sides of the frame rails using the hitch as a template. The manual does not specify the drill bit size.
The manual does not specify required tools. However, installation requires drilling, raising the hitch into position, and torquing fasteners to 86 lb-ft (M12) and 110 lb-ft (1/2"), which implies you will need a drill, a torque wrench, and appropriate sockets or wrenches.
