A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD or 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 2500 HD or 3500 HD (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, Curt part number 31109 is designed for GMC Sierra (New Body Style) 2500HD and 3500 models. It also fits Chevrolet Silverado (New Body Style) 2500HD and 3500. Confirm your vehicle has the new body style before purchasing.
The Curt 31109 has a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. When used for straight-line pull, the maximum line pull is 9,000 lbs. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner's manual or specification plate on the driver's door frame.
The hitch weight is 31 lbs.
No, drilling is not required. The installation notes explicitly state 'NO DRILLING REQUIRED' for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra applications.
The hitch includes: 2 bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-3/4", Grade 8, yellow zinc); 2 hex head cap screws (1/2-13 UNC, 4-1/2", Grade 8, yellow zinc); 4 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8, yellow zinc); 2 flat washers (1/2", yellow zinc); 2 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.25 x 2.00"); and 2 pieces of 1/2" fishwire.
1. If your vehicle is equipped with a tow hook, remove the existing nut from inside the frame rail. 2. Loosen the bolt as shown in the installation diagram. 3. Insert the fishwire spacer and 1/2" bolt into the frame rail. 4. Raise the hitch into position, align the bolt holes, and secure. 5. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
The manual does not specify a GAWR limit for the hitch itself. Instead, you must not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure your vehicle's gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of the loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
No. Never use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment instead.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees angle up or down from horizontal, and 45 degrees angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye when using a snatch block. Do not attach the return cable to the winch mount, as this may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain safe operation and proper function.
Several precautions apply: (1) Do not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR). (2) Reposition the front-mounted license plate if obstructed. (3) Do not obstruct vehicle lights. (4) Allow free air flow into the grille opening. (5) Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling—reduce speed and drive with caution. (6) Accessories extend the front of the vehicle and may reduce approach angle—use caution when parking and maneuvering. (7) Do not obstruct the driver's view.
No permanent modifications are required. The installation is non-invasive: if your vehicle is equipped with a tow hook, you remove the existing nut from inside the frame rail, loosen an existing bolt, insert spacers and bolts, and secure the hitch. No drilling, welding, or cutting is needed.
The Curt 31109 fits Chevrolet Silverado (New Body Style) 2500HD/3500 and GMC Sierra (New Body Style) 2500HD/3500 only. Confirm your vehicle matches these models and body style.
No drilling is required. The hitch mounts using existing frame rail holes with spacers and fasteners.
The hitch supports 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight. Maximum line pull is 9,000 lbs. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
