A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. The Curt 55326 is a custom wiring harness designed to connect your vehicle's taillight wiring to a 4-flat trailer connector. It allows you to safely tow a trailer by routing power from your vehicle's taillights through the harness to the trailer lights.
You will need a panel trim removal tool. This tool helps you safely remove the trunk scuff panel without damaging the alignment tabs. No other specialized tools are required for the basic installation.
Open the vehicle trunk. Remove the scuff panel by pulling out on the bottom and then up, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back. Remove the plastic wing nuts securing the felt trunk liner. Pull back on the felt liner to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the taillight housing.
Separate the vehicle taillight connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end (yellow wire for driver side, green wire for passenger side) between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on both the driver and passenger sides.
Route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use. When not in use, roll it up and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk.
Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. This helps prevent tangling, damage, and ensures a neat installation.
