If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Lexus IS F, IS200t, IS250, IS300 and IS350 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. The kit includes a T-Connector harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with eyelet, double-sided tape, cable ties, a screw for grounding, and a 4-flat connector for use when needed. A separate CME-PCL-INS instruction sheet covers routing of the black power wire from the battery.
Open the trunk and remove: all trunk floor covers, the rear scuff panel (held by three plastic fasteners and cargo loops), and plastic fasteners holding the felt trunk liner in place on both sides. These items are reinstalled after installation.
On the driver's side, pull back the felt trunk liner to locate the factory taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, ensuring both connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
Locate a flat spot on the inside body panel of the vehicle behind the felt trunk liner near the connector. Adhere the black converter box using the double-sided tape provided.
Not necessarily. First, locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the eyelet of the white ground wire using the screw provided.
Route the T-Connector end with the green wire across to the passenger side behind the removed scuff panel. Use the cable ties provided to secure wires to an existing wiring harness. Route the 4-flat connector from under the felt trunk liner to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use. Roll up and store in an out-of-the-way location when not in use. Refer to the CME-PCL-INS instruction sheet for routing the black power wire from the battery to the converter.
Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface will not be damaged. Drilling without checking can cause damage and/or personal injury.
When separating the factory taillight connectors, take care not to damage the locking tabs. The locking tabs must be in place when the T-Connector is fully inserted.
