If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Kia Rondo and Soul (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, the Curt 56222 fits Kia Soul models, excluding those with LED taillights. If your vehicle has LED taillights, this harness is not compatible.
No. The Curt 56222 is not compatible with LED taillight versions of the Kia Rondo or Soul. The manual explicitly excludes LED taillights from the applications list.
The Curt 56222 has two amperage ratings: Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 5.0 amps total. You must not exceed these ratings or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a 10mm socket, ratchet, and Phillips screwdriver. These are the only tools listed as required for installation.
Yes. Step 2 of the installation instructions requires you to locate the vehicle battery and disconnect the negative battery terminal before proceeding with any other steps.
The vehicle wiring harness connectors are located behind the taillights. The manual refers to these positions as S3 and S4 in the Wiring Location Guide. You will access them by removing the taillight assemblies from the rear of the vehicle.
Open the rear hatch and remove the Phillips drive screws holding each taillight assembly in place. Then gently pull the taillight assemblies rearward and out, being careful not to break the alignment tabs. Behind each taillight, you will find the connectors for the taillight wiring harness.
The yellow wire T-connector is inserted between the separated taillight connectors on the driver side. It must be fully inserted with locking tabs in place to ensure proper connection.
The green wire T-connector is used on the passenger side. It is inserted between the separated taillight connectors on that side, and the green wire is also routed under the vehicle from the driver side to the passenger side, running along the backside of the rear bumper.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire installation. Step 6 instructs you to locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable existing point is available, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. Before drilling, you must check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. Clean the ground area of any rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Mount the black converter module on a flat, clean surface behind the removed taillight or on the vehicle frame that is out of the path of spray and debris from the rear wheels and road. Use the provided double-sided tape to secure it. Failure to mount the module in a protected area can cause loss of warranty, product failure including lamp malfunction, overheating and potential fire.
Remove the fastener from the rear bumper fascia with a Phillips screwdriver. Route the T-connector end with the green wire and the 4-flat down through the opening under the taillight and rear bumper fascia. Under the vehicle, route the green wire along the backside of the rear bumper to the passenger's side and up through the opening under the taillight and rear bumper fascia on that side.
When routing wires, be careful to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank or any other areas that might pinch or break the wire. Also check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury.
Route the 4-flat wire to the center of the vehicle and secure it in a convenient, out of the way location. Use the provided cable ties to secure any loose wires.
Reinstall all items removed during installation, including the taillight assemblies and rear bumper fascia fastener. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
