The Curt 58475 is a custom bypass switch designed for recreational, flat towing, or dingy towing applications. It allows you to bypass specific fuses in your vehicle's fuse panel during towing operations by replacing two factory fuses with this switch, which can then be controlled to manage power to towing-related circuits.
Compatibility is determined by your vehicle's towing setup. Locate your vehicle's owner's manual or service manual for your specific make, model, and year. In the index, find the towing section and look for the subsection on 'recreational, flat towing or dingy towing'. This section will identify which fuses need to be replaced with the bypass switch. If your vehicle has a towing section with fuses that can be bypassed, the 58475 is compatible.
You will need: a panel trim removal tool, a drill, a cutting tool, a 3/4" drill bit, a drill bit smaller than 3/4", needle nose pliers, and a test light. Some vehicles may include a fuse tool in the vehicle, which can be used instead of needle nose pliers to remove fuses.
Follow these steps in order: (1) Locate your vehicle's owner's manual and identify which fuses to replace in the towing section. (2) Remove the two fuses from the fuse panel using a fuse tool or needle nose pliers. (3) Press the new switch pins into the fuse block where the fuses were removed, ensuring red wires stay together and black wires stay together. (4) Test the switch with a test light to verify power. (5) Find a mounting location in the lower plastic dash near the fuse box. (6) Drill a 3/4" hole at the mounting location. (7) Remove the two wires from the switch by holding the connector and pulling firmly. (8) Thread the nut onto the switch from the backside of the panel and hand-tighten to secure.
