CURT custom wiring connectors are the easiest way to outfit your vehicle with a CURT trailer wiring connection. They are built with some of the most advanced technology in the industry, and each one is custom-fitted to work with a specific make and model. Some automotive manufacturers install a special socket on the vehicle to be used for vehicle-to-trailer wiring. Although this special socket is not equipped on every vehicle, a CURT custom wiring connector -- also called a T-connector -- utilizes the socket for simple, stress-free installation. Rather than requiring you to cut, splice and solder into your vehicle's wiring system, the custom wiring connector uses a single OEM-compatible plug and instantly provides a standard, universal vehicle-to-trailer wiring connection, typically in the form a 4-way flat. All CURT custom wiring connectors are made vehicle-specific for the easiest possible installation and the best fit. This particular plug-in connector provides a 4-way flat socket and is designed to be a custom wiring option for certain years of the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey (for vehicles without an OE plug behind the bumper) (factory tow package required; to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware to establish a solid connection. It also comes with a dust cover to keep the connector socket clean when not in use. To ensure long-lasting reliability, all CURT custom wiring connectors are thoroughly tested for optimal functionality. Stress is the last thing you should feel when towing a trailer -- whether you're hauling your RV to that favorite camping destination, your ATVs up to the hunting grounds or your fishing boat to the new hidden hotspot. At CURT, we think your towing equipment should add to the enjoyment of your experience, not detract from it.

Yes, Curt part 56673 is designed for Mercury Monterey and Ford Freestar vehicles. The installation involves connecting a T-connector harness to the factory taillight wiring behind the rear bumper and installing relays and fuses into the main fuse center on the driver's side of the engine compartment.
The Curt 56673 T-connector harness integrates with your vehicle's factory taillight wiring to enable trailer lighting control. It connects to the factory harness behind the rear bumper and works with relays and fuses installed in the main fuse center to manage trailer tail, turn, and stop light signals.
The Curt 56673 includes a T-connector harness with wires, three relays, and two 20 amp mini fuses. The manual does not specify whether cable ties are included; you may need to obtain these separately to secure the T-connector wires to the vehicle.
The taillight wiring harness is located behind the rear bumper. You will need to access this area to locate the factory harness connector, which will be similar in appearance to the T-connector harness connector.
1. Locate the factory harness connector behind the rear bumper. 2. Remove the protective dust cover from the factory connector and clean away any dirt, dust, or debris. 3. Insert the T-connector harness end into the factory harness connector and firmly press the ends together until the locking tabs engage. 4. Secure the T-connector wires to the vehicle using cable ties.
The main fuse center is located on the driver's side of the engine compartment at the front of the vehicle. The fuse panel cover has a label on the inside that identifies the position locations for the relays and fuses.
Insert three relays into positions 29, 30, and 31. Insert two 20 amp mini fuses into positions 46 and 52. The label on the inside of the fuse panel cover identifies these position locations.
The Curt 56673 uses two 20 amp mini fuses, which are inserted into positions 46 and 52 of the main fuse center.
According to the diagram, the three relays control trailer tail, left turn/stop, and right turn/stop functions. The relays are inserted into positions 29, 30, and 31 of the main fuse center.
Before drilling or working on any part of the vehicle, verify that miscellaneous items (such as wiring, fuel lines, or other components) are not hidden behind or under any surface you plan to access. This will avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury.
