CURT custom wiring connectors are the easiest way to outfit your vehicle with a CURT trailer wiring connection. They are built with some of the most advanced technology in the industry, and each one is custom-fitted to work with a specific make and model. Some automotive manufacturers install a special socket on the vehicle to be used for vehicle-to-trailer wiring. Although this special socket is not equipped on every vehicle, a CURT custom wiring connector -- also called a T-connector -- utilizes the socket for simple, stress-free installation. Rather than requiring you to cut, splice and solder into your vehicle's wiring system, the custom wiring connector uses a single OEM-compatible plug and instantly provides a standard, universal vehicle-to-trailer wiring connection, typically in the form a 4-way flat. All CURT custom wiring connectors are made vehicle-specific for the easiest possible installation and the best fit. This particular plug-in connector provides a 4-way flat socket and is designed to be a custom wiring option for certain years of the Honda Element (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware to establish a solid connection. It also comes with a dust cover to keep the connector socket clean when not in use. To ensure long-lasting reliability, all CURT custom wiring connectors are thoroughly tested for optimal functionality. Stress is the last thing you should feel when towing a trailer -- whether you're hauling your RV to that favorite camping destination, your ATVs up to the hunting grounds or your fishing boat to the new hidden hotspot. At CURT, we think your towing equipment should add to the enjoyment of your experience, not detract from it.

The CURT Custom 4-Flat, Select Honda Element, OEM Tow Package Required Trailer Connector Kit (Part #BKDK56029) Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The Curt 56029 is a custom wiring connector that integrates with your vehicle's electrical system to provide trailer lighting control. It includes a 10-pin connector with a black converter box and a 4-flat connector for trailer use. The connector handles signal circuits (3.0 amps per side) and tail/running circuits (6.0 amps total).
Yes, the Curt 56029 is designed for Honda Element vehicles in the SUVs, Mini & Full-Sized Vans category. Verify your vehicle matches this application before installation.
No special tools are required. The installation uses basic hand tools to remove access panels and secure fasteners. You will need a drill with a 3/32" bit if you choose to drill a new grounding point rather than use an existing screw.
The kit includes a 10-pin connector with black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided screw for grounding, double-sided tape for mounting the converter box, a 4-flat dust cover, and cable ties for securing loose wires.
There are two vehicle wiring harnesses you will connect to: (1) Under the driver-side steering wheel, taped to another harness to the left of the steering column (Step 1), and (2) On the rear scuff panel on the driver side, accessed after removing the cargo area floor cover (Step 6).
Open the driver-side door and locate the access panel under the steering wheel. Turn the locking knobs 90 degrees counter-clockwise to release and remove the panel.
Insert the 10-pin connector with the black converter attached into the vehicle wiring harness connector. Push firmly until the connectors are fully inserted and the locking tabs are in place. This connection is made twice: once under the steering wheel (Step 2) and once at the rear scuff panel (Step 6).
Drilling is optional. You must locate a suitable grounding point, which can be an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing point is available, you may drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire with the ring terminal.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole if you need to create a new grounding point. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle under the dash and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Ensure the surface is clean and flat for proper adhesion.
Open the vehicle tailgate and remove the cargo nets and cargo area floor cover to access the spare tire area. On the driver side, locate the vehicle wiring harness mounted on the rear scuff panel. Remove the protective cover before inserting the custom wiring harness connector.
When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation and install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the connector for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring connector functions properly.
Do not exceed the product rating (signal circuits 3.0 amps per side, tail/running circuits 6.0 amps total) or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for your specific lamp load rating.
