If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Mitsubishi Montero (except Sport) (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The kit includes a T-connector with yellow and green wire ends, a 4-flat wire connector, a black converter box, a white grounding wire with eyelet and screw, double-sided tape, and cable ties for securing loose wires and connectors.
Yes. You must open the hatch and remove both taillight housings by removing two Phillips head screws on each housing. Pull the housings away carefully to avoid damaging the alignment tabs.
You will need a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the taillight housing screws. If no suitable grounding point exists on the vehicle frame, you will need a drill with a 3/32" bit to create a grounding hole. All other fasteners and connectors are included.
Drilling is required only if no suitable existing grounding point (such as a screw with nut in the vehicle frame) is available near the connector location. If drilling is necessary, you must drill a 3/32" hole for the white grounding wire. Always verify that no hidden items, wiring, or fuel lines are behind or under the surface before drilling.
Drill a 3/32" hole for the white grounding wire. Secure the wire using the eyelet and screw provided in the kit.
Starting on the driver's side, separate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors. Insert the T-connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the T-connector end with the green wire.
The yellow wire T-connector is inserted on the driver's side of the vehicle's taillight wiring harness. The green wire T-connector is routed to the passenger side along the backside of the bumper and inserted into the passenger-side taillight wiring harness. Both connect the vehicle's taillight signals to the trailer connector.
Route the green wire and 4-flat connector down through the opening under the taillight assembly. Under the vehicle, route the green wire to the passenger side along the backside of the bumper and up through the opening on the passenger side. Route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and secure it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided in the kit.
Adhere the black converter box to the frame of the vehicle using the double-sided tape provided in the kit.
Use the cable ties provided in the kit to secure any loose parts of the T-connector and any loose wires. This prevents snagging, damage, and ensures a neat installation.
Before drilling, verify that no miscellaneous items—such as wiring, fuel lines, or other components—are hidden behind or under the surface where you plan to drill. Drilling into hidden items can cause damage to the vehicle and personal injury.
Yes. When removing the taillight housings in step 1, pull them away from the vehicle carefully to avoid damaging the alignment tabs. Damaged tabs may prevent proper reinstallation or cause misalignment.
