A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Honda Accord (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You will need: ratchet, ratchet extension, 10mm socket, Phillips screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, wire stripper, wire crimper, cutting tool, and fish wire. A drill may be needed if a suitable existing grounding screw is not available.
The harness includes: custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, white ground wire with ring terminal, black converter box, provided screw for grounding, double-sided tape for converter box mounting, 4-flat connector, 4-flat dust cover, and cable ties for securing loose wires.
The yellow wire end connects at the driver side taillight, and the green wire end connects at the passenger side taillight. Each harness end inserts between the separated taillight connectors, with locking tabs fully seated.
1. Open the trunk and remove all floor coverings. 2. Locate and remove the taillight trim cover. 3. Remove the two fasteners securing the taillight. 4. Gently pull the taillight outward, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back. 5. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing without damaging the locking tabs.
Route the custom wiring harness with the yellow wire from underneath the vehicle along the rear bumper and up behind the fender to the opening under the removed driver-side taillight. Route the green wire end to the passenger side along the rear bumper. Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet. Route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use; roll up and store inside the trunk when not in use.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire. Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with a nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing screw is available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Always check for hidden items behind or under surfaces before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
