If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Honda Pilot (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Honda Pilot 56519 (Part #BKDK56519) Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Part number 56519 is a custom wiring harness with converter box manufactured by Curt Manufacturing. It provides electrical connections for towing on SUVs and vans, converting the vehicle's electrical system to a 4-flat trailer connector. The harness includes a black converter box that mounts inside the vehicle and a 4-flat connector that routes out through the rear hatch to the trailer.
Part number 56519 is designed for SUVs and vans. The manual does not specify which exact vehicle models, years, or configurations are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or check the product fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle before purchasing.
The manual recommends proper tools to improve installation quality and reduce time, but does not specify which tools are required. Based on the installation steps, you will likely need: a screwdriver (for twist hold-downs and fasteners), a drill with a 3/32" bit (if drilling a ground hole), an abrasive pad or paper (to clean rust and paint from the grounding point), and a test light, 4-flat tester, or functioning trailer (to verify proper function after installation). Contact the manufacturer for a complete tool list.
The kit includes: a custom wiring harness with white connector housing, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a black converter box, a pink 30-amp fuse, a yellow 20-amp fuse, a provided ground screw (for use if drilling is required), double-sided tape (to adhere the converter box), cable ties (to secure loose wires), and a 4-flat dust cover (to prevent corrosion).
Yes. Step 1 requires you to disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. After completing all installation steps, you must reconnect the negative battery terminal. Be sure to fasten the disconnected wire down and away from the battery during the installation process.
The installation difficulty is rated as Moderate. This rating is based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, the condition of the vehicle, and whether proper tools and equipment are available.
The white connector housing from the custom wiring harness attaches to a mating housing located on the driver-side wheel well body in the upper left side of the storage cubby. To access it, open the rear hatch, remove the floor board, and lift the storage cubby cover (which has two 1/4 turn twist hold-downs) on the driver side.
Open the vehicle rear hatch and remove the floor board to access the storage area. On the driver side, locate the storage cubby with two 1/4 turn twist hold-downs. Twist and lift this cover up (you may need to remove items stored in the cubby first) to access the tire tool kit area and the mating connector housing.
Drilling may be required. Step 4 instructs you to locate a grounding point using either an existing screw or bolt in the vehicle frame, or to drill a 3/32" pilot hole if no existing fastener is available. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. The area must be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to clean it.
If an existing screw or bolt is not available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground screw. Before drilling, ensure the area is free from rust, dirt, and paint by using an abrasive pad or paper. Always check for hidden items behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury.
The product has the following electrical ratings: Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and Tail/Running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp max fuse. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
Open the hood and locate the fuse panel on the driver side. Release the four cover locks by lifting straight up. Install the pink 30-amp fuse in location 7 and the yellow 20-amp fuse in location 12. Note: some vehicles do not have all fuses needed in the engine compartment fuse box; contact your vehicle manufacturer if the required locations are not available.
The kit includes a pink 30-amp fuse and a yellow 20-amp fuse. The pink 30-amp fuse installs in fuse location 7, and the yellow 20-amp fuse installs in fuse location 12 in the engine compartment fuse panel.
The white ground wire has a ring terminal and is part of the custom wiring harness. It must be secured to a grounding point on the vehicle frame. You can use an existing screw or bolt, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole and use the provided ground screw. The grounding area must be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to clean it before securing the ring terminal.
When in use, route the 4-flat connector with the center of the vehicle and out of the hatch to the trailer. Be sure to stay clear of the hatch's latching mechanism. When not in use, roll up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Choose a location that is convenient and out of the way, and ensure the 4-flat connector can be routed out through the rear hatch without interference from the hatch's latching mechanism.
Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal (typically noted with red covers or a red '+' symbol), as this can cause a ground short, resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation and reconnect it only after all installation steps are complete. Fasten the disconnected wire down and away from the battery during the installation process.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. Ensure the grounding area is free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to clean it before drilling or securing the ground wire.
After installation, test for proper function by using a test light, 4-flat tester, or by connecting a properly wired trailer. This verification step is required to ensure the product will function properly. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. The manual does not specify the inspection interval. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for additional maintenance recommendations.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a maximum of 10 amps. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
