If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Kia Niro (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Kia Niro Trailer Connector Kit (Part #BKDK56376) Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The Curt 56376 is a custom wiring harness that integrates trailer lighting circuits with your vehicle's electrical system. It provides signal circuits rated at 3.0 amps per side and tail/running circuits rated at 6.0 amps total, allowing you to connect a trailer with a 4-flat connector.
Yes, the Curt 56376 is designed for the Kia Niro. The installation instructions are specific to this model and include detailed steps for accessing the taillight connectors and interior trim panels on this vehicle.
The manual only confirms fitment for the Kia Niro. Do not assume it fits other Kia models. Contact Curt Manufacturing or check the fitment database for compatibility with other vehicles.
You will need: ratchet, ratchet extension, 10mm socket, Phillips screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, wire stripper, wire crimper, and cutting tool. A drill may be needed if a suitable grounding point with an existing screw is not available.
The harness includes: custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, white ground wire with ring terminal, provided screw for grounding, black converter box with double-sided tape, 4-flat connector with dust cover, and cable ties for securing loose wires.
You must remove: all trunk floor coverings and storage trays, the rear scuff panel (secured by Phillips screws), the lower interior side trim panel fasteners, and the upper side trim panel (using a panel trim removal tool). The taillight wiring harness connectors are located behind the interior side panel, wrapped in foam tape.
Remove the foam tape from the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors and separate them from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
The yellow wire end connects to the driver side taillight connector, and the green wire end connects to the passenger side taillight connector. The green wire end is routed down behind the interior side panel and out to the passenger side to complete the installation on both sides of the vehicle.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire installation. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no existing screw is available, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire with the ring terminal and provided screw.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame near the taillight connector.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, to avoid loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. When in use, route it to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Locate a flat spot near the taillight wiring harness that is out of the way of the side trim panels. Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. This helps keep the installation neat and prevents wires from interfering with trim panels or other components.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum. Exceeding this can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Test for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer.
