If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Nissan Rogue Sport (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, the CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Nissan Rogue Sport Trailer Connector Kit (Part #BKDK56445) is designed to fit the 2020-2022 Nissan Rogue Sport.
The CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Nissan Rogue Sport Trailer Connector Kit (Part #BKDK56445) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The Curt 56445 is a custom wiring harness with powered converter for SUVs and vans. It converts the vehicle's taillight signals to a 4-flat trailer connector, allowing you to connect a trailer with standard lighting. The system includes a converter box, wiring harness, 4-flat connector, and all necessary hardware.
The Curt 56445 is designed for SUVs and vans. Your vehicle must have a 12-volt negative ground electrical system. Check your vehicle owner's manual to confirm your electrical system type. If you are unsure whether your specific vehicle model is compatible, contact Curt Manufacturing or consult a fitment database.
You will need: ratchet, 10mm socket, socket extension, trim panel removal tool, cutting tool, wire stripper, wire crimper, and electrical tape. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
The kit includes a custom wiring harness with yellow, green, white, and black wires; a black converter box; a 4-flat trailer connector; a white ground wire with ring terminal; a provided screw for grounding; double-sided tape for mounting the converter box; cable ties for securing wires; a 10-amp fuse holder; and a 4-flat dust cover.
Yes. You must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery while completing the installation. Reconnect it only after all other steps are complete and you have tested the harness for proper function.
The installation is rated as Easy. However, installation difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, the condition of the vehicle, and whether proper tools and equipment are available.
Open the vehicle hatch. On the driver side, locate and remove the two 10mm taillight fasteners using a 10mm socket and ratchet. Remove the taillight by pulling straight rearward. Locate the taillight wiring connectors, which will be similar to those on the custom wiring product. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat this process on the passenger side.
Fishwiring is a method to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole or cavity. For the Curt 56445, you route a fishwire (which can be a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string) down between the body and bumper cover. You may need to remove a push fastener in the mud flap to locate and attach the fishwire to the housing with the yellow wire. Use tape to secure the harness to the fishwire and pull it back up. If the wire gets hung up, you may need to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it.
After routing the fishwire and attaching the harness, pull the wire back up and attach to the factory harness. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. This ensures a secure connection between the custom wiring harness and the vehicle's taillight wiring.
You should first locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing point is available, you may drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The grounding area should be free of rust, dirt, and paint. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This is especially important when drilling the 3/32" pilot hole for the ground wire screw or when passing the power wire through sheet metal.
Locate a flat, clean surface that is out of the path of spray and debris from the rear wheels and road. Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Failure to mount the box in a protected area can cause loss of warranty, product failure, overheating, and potential fire.
Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the provided Powered Converter Lead Instruction Sheet. Route 12 GA wire to the vehicle battery location, taking care to avoid any pinch points and hot or rotating components. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the cable ties provided. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect the power wire from sharp edges.
Use a ring terminal for the battery connection. Route the black 12 GA wire to the positive (+) battery terminal. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Install the fuse holder with a 10-amp fuse after all other installation steps are complete. Disconnect the negative battery cable before wiring the power wire.
Route the 4-flat to the trailer hitch and mount it in an easy-to-access location. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
The signal circuits (left and right turn signals) are rated at 6.0 amps per side.
The tail and running light circuits are rated at 3.0 amps total.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Use 12 GA wire or larger for the power wire routed from the vehicle battery to the converter.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground wire screw. The grounding area should be free of rust, dirt, and paint.
The wire colors on the Curt 56445 harness are: Yellow = Left turn signal, Green = Right turn signal, Red = Brake signal, Brown = Tail/Running lights. The white wire is the ground wire, and the black wire is the power wire.
The Curt 56445 converter system is designed to be used only on 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer to confirm your vehicle has this type of system.
If the converter is used as a powered module for a two-wire system, the red brake wire must be grounded.
Once the 12-volt power wire is connected to the harness, verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the battery and testing with a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. This should be done before completing the installation.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. If the negative battery terminal was disconnected at the beginning, reconnect it. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the harness for proper function using a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. This helps maintain proper function and prevent electrical issues.
Yes, the Curt 56445 is designed for SUVs and vans with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. Verify your vehicle's electrical system type in your owner's manual.
Yes, disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting installation and reconnect it only after all steps are complete and the harness is tested.
Drilling may be required only if no existing grounding point is available; you would drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground wire screw. Check for hidden items before drilling.
The battery connection must use a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
Use 12 GA wire or larger for the power wire from the vehicle battery to the converter.
