If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Toyota Sienna (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

CURT offers a variety of high-quality trailer hitches and accessories for select vehicle models. Find the perfect fit for your towing needs at TowUniverse.

The CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Toyota Sienna 56489 (Part #BKDK56489) fits 2021-2026 Toyota Sienna models. The 2026 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The CURT Custom Wiring Harness, 4-Way Flat Output, Select Toyota Sienna 56489 (Part #BKDK56489) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes. The 56489 is designed for SUVs and vans with an interior spare tire. The installation process for vehicles with an interior spare tire is covered in Step 2A and Step 5A of the manual. You will remove the spare tire panel and locate the white connector at the bottom rear of the spare tire opening to connect the custom wiring harness.
Yes. The 56489 is designed for SUVs and vans with a fix-a-flat kit. For these vehicles, you will locate the cargo hooks in the skid plate of the rear hatch opening, remove the two cargo hook fasteners using a 10mm socket (Step 2B), and then locate the white connector in the back corner near the floor to connect the custom wiring harness (Step 5B).
Yes. Step 1 of the installation requires you to open the rear hatch, locate the vehicle battery in the passenger-side compartment, and remove the ground wire before proceeding with any other steps.
Three tools are required: a ratchet, a panel trim removal tool, and a 10mm socket. The trim removal tool is used to loosen push fasteners in the skid plate and interior side panel. The 10mm socket is used to remove the two cargo hook fasteners if your vehicle has a fix-a-flat kit.
The white connector is the factory connector in your vehicle where the custom wiring harness connects. For vehicles with an interior spare tire, it is located at the bottom rear of the spare tire opening (Step 5A). For vehicles with a fix-a-flat kit, it is located in the back corner near the floor (Step 5B). The connector may be taped to another harness; if so, remove the tape carefully without damaging any wires before connecting the custom harness.
Locate a mounting spot for the module and use the supplied double-sided tape and/or zip ties to secure it to the vehicle. The module should be mounted in the same area where you connected the white connector (either the spare tire opening for Step 5A vehicles, or the back corner near the floor for Step 5B vehicles).
Yes. After connecting the custom wiring harness and securing the module, you must add the fuse to the fuse holder on the custom harness. The fuse is supplied with the product.
After adding the fuse to the fuse holder, verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the 4-flat connector to any trailer with functioning lights. Once testing is complete, roll up the 4-flat and store it in the spare tire opening.
Route the 4-flat along the lower rear hatch area and secure it in place with zip ties as needed. After routing, reinstall the driver-side interior panel and skid plate.
Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal (typically noted with red covers or a red '+' symbol). This can cause a ground short, resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks. Additionally, do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
The installation difficulty is rated as Easy. However, the actual difficulty may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, the condition of the vehicle, and whether proper tools and equipment are available.
If your vehicle has an interior spare tire located on the driver side, remove the panel by pulling it to the center of the vehicle and lifting it out (Step 2A). Set it aside during installation. You will reinstall it after the wiring harness is connected and routed.
For vehicles with a fix-a-flat kit, locate the cargo hooks in the skid plate of the rear hatch opening and use a 10mm socket to remove the two cargo hook fasteners (Step 2B). Additionally, you will need to loosen the push fasteners in the skid plate and the cargo net tie point on the driver side (Step 3), and loosen the push fasteners on the interior side panel on the driver side (Step 4).
The cargo net tie point is located on the driver side of the skid plate. It has threads on it and must be loosened during installation (Step 3). Use a ratchet to loosen it.
The 56489 is designed for SUVs and vans with either an interior spare tire or a fix-a-flat kit. Confirm your vehicle has one of these features before purchasing.
You need a ratchet, a panel trim removal tool, and a 10mm socket. These are the only tools required for installation.
Yes. You must disconnect the ground wire from the vehicle battery in the passenger-side compartment before beginning installation.
After adding the fuse, attach the 4-flat connector to a trailer with functioning lights to verify the harness is working properly.
Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal, as this can cause a short circuit, sparks, and electrical shocks. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating.
Periodically inspect all wires and connections to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
